Chapter One, Finding new friends.

(Y/N POV)

Right when I woke up I decided to check all of my social medias, it was boring as usual. Random followers, you didn't even know. "It's probably just people who don't even care about me." I scoff and look down "Y/N! The bus is coming in 3 minutes, brush your teeth and get ready!" my mom yells from downstairs in the kitchen "Mom, can you drive me to school today?" I look down impatiently for an answer as I throw on F/S (favorite shirt) and F/P (favorite pants.) I get up to check my outfit in the mirror as I slip on socks and my shoes, I didn't even care what shoes they were I was just scared since it's the first day I'll be without my bestfriend as she's on vacation. "Mom, is that a yes or no? Can you drive me to school!" I wait for an answer for about another 15 seconds then I creep outside of my door, I look over the stairs to see my moms not there "Mom! This isn't funny, the bus will be here any second I want you to drive me." I sigh and look down at my shoes to realize it's untied. I ignore the fact and run outside onto the bus almost tripping "Bro!" I yell out almost not realizing there's people in front of me, I look side to side where there's only a few seats open. A girl with unique hair sat in the front looking out the window. "Hey. May I sit here." I ask moving closer to her.
"Me?" She asks. "Yes, you." I say fast as the bus starts to move again while I'm still standing
"Of course!" The girl smiles at you as you sit down. "Whats your name?" The girl asks.
"My name is Y/N.. Y/L/N!.. (Your last name.)
She smiles and mumbles for only me and her to hear "My name is Melanie.. Melanie Martinez!"
She moves her hand up to do a small little wave
"It's nice to meet you Melanie, i think we have a few classes together." You add
"I know." Melanie mumbles.
As the bus comes to a stop, we become the second to leave since being in the front row.
I smile at Melanie and wave bye as we head separate directions into the building.
I get a notification, it's from my bestfriend on vacation.
"Hey Y/N." — Sarah (your bestfriend on vacation in the story)

"Hi Sarah!! I miss you! 💓" — you text back

"I made a new friend, I think!" — you text again

"Moving on so fast?" — Sarah texts

"I'm just kidding, I'm so glad for you! What's her name." — Sarah

"Helloooo?" — Sarah

You stare at the messages knowing Sarah has never liked Melanie, you knew Sarah has talked bad about her one time at lunch but that's all you can remember as for now

"You know her, anyways how's vacation?" — You

"That's not answering my question, Y/N. What's her name?" — Sarah

"Y/N just tell me her name, it's not that difficult." — Sarah

"I gotta get to class. Bye Sarah I'll talk to you after second period." — You

Sarah leaves you on read.

I sigh to myself as I run to my locker to get my textbook hurrying to class
"Shit! Sorry!" You say bumping into a teacher and slapping a hand on your mouth not processing what just came out of your mouth in front of a teacher.
"Young lady what is your name?" The teacher asks in a calm yet loud tone.

You look down in anger knowing the bell is gonna ring in any minute.
"Sorry ma'am but I need to get to class, bye!"
The teacher scoffs as you run to your next class.
You get hesitant to open the door yet don't wanna be marked tardy, you walk in as all eyes are on you and the bell rings right when you take a seat.
You look across the classroom to see Melanie. She gives you an awkward smile and waves by the side of her desk where the teacher can't see
"Hi!" You mouth to her across the classroom.
The teacher goes in about details and summer break next week. You and Melanie seem to keep holding eye contact every two minutes it made me feel something, I couldn't explain it. But I've never been attracted to any boy-
"Y/N!" the teacher shouts "ANSWER FOR NUMBER TWO?"
damn it, I'm so lost in my thoughts I wasn't even paying attentio-
"Y/N! ANSWER NOW!" he shouts louder
I glance over at Melanie who held up 3 fingers at me.
"Three." I say in a loud whisper, loud enough so he can hear atleast and maybe half the class, I didn't even acknowledge the question being asked. I just shouted it out I trusted Melanie.
"Correct, so you are paying attention I see." He states.
"I guess." You mumble as the bell rings as you get startled and see Melanie in the corner of your eye giggling at it and walking over to you.
You stand up as Melanie takes your hand and runs to 2nd period, you guys only had 1st, 2nd, and sixth period together.
"Melanie why are we running!"
You say as giggling. "Because I need to tell you something!" Melanie says as letting a soft smile play on her lips as you enter the classroom, you proceed to open the door for Melanie as you guys walk in the teachers not even here yet.
"Why are we in reading so early Melanie?" You state.
"Because, I don't know if we are technically friends yet but, I was thinking maybe we can go to the new coffee shop opening up tomorrow!" Melanie says smiling at you.
"Why did you want to leave so fast though?" I ask in a genuine soft tone.
"Well it was supposed to be a little suprise I guess, so I just made sure we were the only ones so it was quieter, and so I could focus." Melanie states.
"Its okay mel, don't worry I understand." You respond to her.
"But I'd love to go with you! And you don't have to worry, based off of today we are friends."
You say as you put your hand on top of hers.
Melanie looks down. "Will I be able to trust you? I don't have many friends, your my only one at the moment. And I want to make sure you aren't gonna leave me at my lowest."
I look at her as I see tears forming in her eyes.
"Of course I won't leave you, especially not at your lowest Melanie!" I tell her, squeezing her hand gently.
"Thanks y/n." She says as she hugs you, closing her eyes to try and prevent tears from falling out.
I jump in shock and get startled as I see the teacher walking in along with 3 other students.
Time Skip
After school you walked Melanie home, after all. She was only a block away from your house.
School went really good other then in 5th period you got some kids teasing you per usual. It was genuinely nothing new to you, so you brushed it off and went on with your day.
Now
"Hey mom!" I say as I throw my book-bag over the counter and sit next to it smiling as my mom chops up some vegetables.
"Hey y/n. How was school my love?" Your mom questions
"It went really good today, I made a new friend. Melanie! She's a shy girl like me, but I find her really sweet. She doesn't have so much friends. Me and her tend to have a lot of similarities!" You go on rambling about her.
"I'm glad, y/n that you had found another person to trust. She seems nice, why don't you guys hang out I don't mind as long as her mothers okay with it." My mother says.
"Thats what I wanted to talk to you about, we wanted to hang out tomorrow at the coffee shop." I say looking down at my feet.
"As long as you don't skip school." My mother says pouring the vegetables into the steaming pot on the stove as I head upstairs.
"Okay." I mumble to myself knowing I'm still gonna skip. I sit down and yawn, I can't help but keep my mind focused on Melanie. I try to take a break from thinking about her until I get a notification on instagram.

I smile at the notification and follow her back after re-reading it about two more times.

Melanie: Hi! This is Y/N right?

Y/N: yes this is haha, didn't you read my username?

MELANIES POV

I blushed at the message when Y/N said that, I don't know why. I assumed it was from embarrassment but everytime she sends a message I get butterflies, it might be a little too soon to get feelings, but I feel like I should wait, and maybe not ruin the friendship we have so far.

Melanie: yeah, just double checkingggg so watcha doin'?!

I got up from my seat once I said that and burried my face in the pillow, I felt so cringe I started to squeal but at the same time, a happy squeal. She made me feel like me again, a good feeling.

Y/N: just finished the science homework, what about you?

Melanie smiled once she seen the message.

Melanie: I've just been watching movies on Netflix, just random ones. It's been boring.

Y/N: I gotta goooo.. :(( wish I could talk to you for longer, but I'm happy we are still getting coffee, I just gotta get ready for bed and hop in the shower stilll!

Melanie smiled as she seen Y/N remembered, she felt like Y/N actually cared, it made her feel better about her confidence. Melanie started typing the sentence "of course, girlie!" But immediately deleted it knowing how embarrasing it had sounded.

Melanie: I miss you.

Melanie got up from her seat once again and started running around her room and kicking her feet excitedly after she sent that message.
"Go to sleep!" Melanie's mom yells as Melanie holds on her laugh and hurries to check what Y/N said.

Y/N: miss you too ;(( it's only been several hours but stillll!! I can never go long without seeing my friends haha.

Melanie got saddened at the fact y/n said "friends" but Melanie knew deep inside it would be too fast to be more than friends, she understands it's easier as friends for now, but it seems they are both confused about their feelings. Melanie knew y/n's parents never liked the fact y/n was lesbian.

Melanie: well bye y/n :)) goodnight!

Melanie smiled to herself as she wrote that.

Y/N POV

I smiled at Melanie's message as I blushed slightly, I know I shouldn't feel this way this soon, so I decided to hide my feelings for longer. I decided to brush my teeth hop in the shower, then finally doze off to sleep excited for the next day.
