It was a text from y/n. I jumped to check what she said, I hurried and unlocked my phone and read the sentence softly out loud to myself.
"Was there a power outage for you as well? It wasn't letting me text anybody." — Y/N
I was still skeptical, but I felt relieved that it's not her fault she couldn't respond. But my mind wandered to the power outage, we live near eachother.

"No, I'm sorry." — Melanie
I still felt a tad mad how she never message I love you back, but I always overreact and overthink.
Another message notification chimed and echoed throughout my room.
"I love you too." — Y/N I smiled while reading that message, obviously we only meant this as friends, I think. I held down the message and hearted it. I decided to get ready for school.

Y/N'S POV

- Melanie hearted your message-

Well. Might as well take the bus today. Unless if my cousin will drive me.
"JANEEEE!" I yelled out. I knew she would be annoyed.
"What?!" I heard a soft yell across the second floor.
"Can you drive me to school? Please." I responded.
"Be ready in ten." I heard her sigh at the end of that sentence. I know she's annoyed with me, I threw on a quick outfit. A comfy one, and I straightened only half of my hair before Jane yelled for me to get in the car, I got my toothbrush and took another two minutes brushing my teeth. I grabbed mascara and an eyelash curled then ran out the door, I tried to open it but she had it locked? Dumb decision.
She eventually opened after taking her time, I jumped in the passenger seat but she took off before I could even put on my seatbelt.
"Soo.. what about you and that Melanie girl? You like her." Jane asked.
I didn't know how to respond.
"A-as a friend right?" I questioned.
"Hmm.. no, do you have a crush on her?"
Those words made my heart skip a beat, I turned my head towards her and furrowed my eyebrows, of course we're cousins. But she doesn't need to know this type of personal information about my love life, if she snitched me out to my parents. She'll do it again.
"I don't think it's an appropriate time to discuss this, epically in the morning."
I saw her grip on the wheel tighten, why is she so furious over this? I thought to myself. She took a wrong turn, every time she would turn it's like she would try to fly me out the window or something. I grabbed the seatbelt and tightened it around my waist then buckled it. She was going the wrong direction, she eventually started to circle around my old neighbor hood. She knew where she was going when she used to live here, she went to baldwin high school. I was a little scared to say anything, why is she making me late on purpose? I had so many questions. I wish I had answers for, she eventually turned around. I looked at my phone, it was dead. Never having Jane drive me to school, again. After we finally arrived I didn't say anything. She just started off into the distance in front of her. Wow she was acting weird, I buzzed in and got marked tardy for my first class, I came in half late. Melanie started to stare at me, I was a little scared to look back at her, and make eye contact.
"Sit down." Our English teacher said, so I did. Next to Melanie, she turned to me and whispered.
"What happened?" I looked down and fiddled with my fingers.
"My cousin taken me to school, she looked like she didn't know where she was going. She used to go here but. I just don't kn-" of course I was cut off for the millionth time this week.
"That explains a lot." She stated as she continued to draw in her English notebook, she drew a really fluffy mouse with polkadots surrounding its fur, the drawing concerned me a tad bit. I'm sure she could tell I was intrigued by the drawing because she caught me staring over her shoulder.
The bell rang, as I sighed. I walked over to my locker, another love note? I thought to myself. I unfolded it and read the words, "lesbo." I turned around to see who it was, and of course Tiffany and her little followers giggling as they speed walk away. I didn't wanna become involved in any drama, but this was totally acceptable.
I wrote a note saying "so obsessed of me you'll do anything you can to get a reaction" I looked at it, I'm not the type of person to intentionally be disrespectful towards them just because they did the same to me. I crumbled it up, and threw it away. I felt a tap on my shoulder as I slowly turned around.
"Hey y/n." Melanie said.
"Hi mel." I stood there akwardly.
"Wanna skip, and go rollerskating?" I ask.
I saw her smile, her adorable dimples. She nodded and took my hand. Once I felt her soft hand on mine. I sworn I felt butterflies swarming inside of my stomach. I locked my fingers with hers, and rubbed my thumb on the top of her hand gently as we walked out the school.
I admired her as we walked down the bike trail. We finally entered the rink, it was huge. The downstairs was ice skating, and the upstairs was roller skating. We went to the front desk and got wristbands for skating til 8pm. I let go of her hand and walked into the elevator, I pressed the "floor two" button. A smile appeared on my face as we walked out and she taken my hand again. We got our skates, and put them on. I needed help with my laces, I had no idea how to tie them. Melanie noticed and she kneeled down.
"Thanks." I said.
She just looked up and smiled, i obviously knew she was shy, but it was always cute to me.
She started to tie them, i felt embarrassed a bit. We're in high school and I had no idea at all on how to tie roller skates, I'm still new to this. But I was scared I would make an embarrassment in front of Melanie and fall, although this was my idea. When i saw they served milkshakes here, it made me think about Michael. Is this where he wanted to go? Mel finished and helped me get up.
We were holding eachothers hands it looked like we were about to do a combo on skates.
"Ready?" Melanie asked me.
"I think.." I said.
We started to skate across the carpet for practice then onto the actual rink, it was fun. I didn't fall once. But it definitely felt like I was gonna lose my balance at some points. I grabbed onto Melanie's waist to catch my balance, I could tell she looked a bit flustered.
"Sorry." I laughed out.
"Don't worry about it." She smiled.
It was 8:27pm and our time was due at 8pm until we realized, we collected our belongings and went.
Time Skip
I'm back at my house, and my mom was pretty furious once I arrived, for one. I didn't answer any messages, I skipped the rest of school, and I didn't arrive til 9pm because of the long ass walk.
My cousin banged at my door, could she not knock like a normal human being? I heard her yell "unlock the door" now I was terrified, I wanted to act like I was asleep, I hurried and went in the bathroom to brush my teeth and get ready for sleep, she was still outside my door. I think this was just her wanting to give me a lecture about me skipping school and stuff, since I'm a tardy away from detention. I ended up falling asleep as she walked away. I finally woke up at a decent time and got ready, I walked downstairs to pop some toast in the toaster. My cousin yelled from the living room "I'll drive you to school."
