Timothy used the school's science lab during the summer. So, when Alanna said we needed to see Timothy next, Patty and I knew exactly where to go. Hell, anyone in town would. He'd been using the high school science lab since the fifth grade. I pull us up to the high school and put the truck into park. Patty and Alanna jump out and head straight for the entrance. I have to jog to keep up with their determined stride.
Alanna's arms are full of all the clues we'd found over the past month. She'd insisted we go home before we swung by the school so she could get everything gathered up to show Timothy. I advised her to leave Addie's journal behind. Didn't want her getting arrested. Doc would take her down in a heartbeat too, especially if he knew what she was up to.
We weave through the school until we find a lab with the lights on. Timothy was sitting by himself looking into a microscope with dozens of little plastic circular containers littering the table around him. I clear my throat, and he grunts in response but doesn't lift his head from his work. "Excuse me, Timothy?" Alanna starts. Timothy sighs loudly and lifts his head before turning to look at Alanna with an annoyed expression.
"I'm working." He says, as if that justified his rudeness. "Watch your tone with your elders." I say automatically and he turns his glare on me and scoffs. "Yeah, like anyone should take advice on talking to women from you." He says and Patty snickers in response. Alanna on the other hand, narrows her eyes and mumbles, "This fucking town." Before she plows ahead, walking through the room and dumping all our proof on the table behind Timothy.
"Have you analyzed the Fosters or the Winters' DNA yet?" She asks and Timothy's eyes widen slightly. "What do you know?" He asks skeptically. She smiles a smug smile. "I know that you're going to find that they share a common ancestor." She says and crosses her arms. He narrows his eyes further.
"IF what you are saying is true, I'd have to get a second sample from each of them to confirm my findings and ensure there wasn't contamination." He says in response. "Would you be willing to focus on moving forward with that investigation if I provided you with enough circumstantial evidence to believe that result may in fact be accurate?" She presses and Timothy looks at her warily.
"You realize that the town will...react...to such news, right?" He asks. Alanna smiles an evil smile and nods. "This town has its issues, but the truth is always more important than public opinion." She counters. He looks away thoughtfully before he nods in agreement. "Show me what you have. And IF it is compelling, I will prioritize this line of inquiry." He states finally and gets up to look at the pile of stuff on the table.
Alanna grins and starts laying out everything we've learned, leaving out the inappropriate bits, as Timothy is still only fifteen. "I don't know...that's a lot of supposition." He says once she's covered the whole of it. Her face drops momentarily before Patty pipes up. "Every theory starts with a hypothesis. If we can prove that Olivia's child was indeed a Foster, then we are one step closer to proving that her father was the murderer."
"You should ask the Winters if they have anything of Olivia's. Just don't bring him." He says and nods towards me. I glare at the little fucker. Betty and I never had issues with each other. It was everyone else that had the problem. But Betty no longer lived in town, so Doc was who we'd have to ask. With that being the case, Timothy was right, whether I liked it or not. "Doc does hate me. He likes Patty alright though." I offer and Patty grins. Everyone likes her.
Alanna rolls her eyes. "Fine, we'll try to find more proof of the murder, you find proof of the familial connection." She says pointing to Timothy. She writes her phone number on a small corner of one of the photocopied pages and tears it off, handing it to Timothy. "Text me when you have a definitive answer." She says and scoops up our proof before marching back out of the classroom. Patty and I follow close behind.
