Crystal blinked, eyes wide. Getting caught by Gigi at four in the morning was not something she had ever planned on happening. Her heart thrummed nervously in her chest.

"Well?" Gigi pressed when Crystal had yet to say anything.

"I was..." Crystal tried to choose her words carefully, "...out."

Gigi crossed her arms.

"'Out'?" she repeated. "Right."

Crystal offered a small, unconvincing smile.

"If you're cheating on me just say it," Gigi said, looking down and picking at her nails, feigning indifference.

Crystal was taken aback.

"No," she said quickly. "I wouldn't, I-"

"You don't have to pretend, Crys. Excuses don't work on me."

Crystal finally broke out of her frozen shock and stepped forward, putting her hands on both of Gigi's arms.

"Gigi, I didn't cheat on you," she tried, though Gigi didn't look convinced. "I would never do that, and you know it."

Gigi met Crystal's eyes, not being able to act like she didn't care anymore. Sadness and disappointment broke through her gaze, and Crystal couldn't help the tears that pooled in her eyes. Gigi thought she had cheated on her.

"What were you doing?" Gigi asked.

Crystal bit her lip.

"Not cheating on you."

"What else am I supposed to think?" Gigi sighed quietly. "I go to your room at three and you're gone, I wait up and you don't come back 'til four. And you won't tell me where you were, or what you were doing."

Crystal looked away, not wanting to look her girlfriend in the eye while she hid the truth.

"I can't tell you."

"Why not?"

"I just can't."

Crystal probably could have come up with a better excuse, but her brain was short circuiting at being caught. She could have just said that she was hanging out with Daya, she just realized. But it was too late now.

Gigi closed her eyes and sighed.

"Who is she?"

Crystal turned her gaze back to Gigi's face, the first few tears starting to fall.

"Gigi, no-" Her voice broke, and Gigi's resolve melted.

Gigi wrapped her arms around Crystal, pulling her into her, and Crystal burried her face in her chest. Gigi sighed and ran her hand over the blue hair.

She didn't know why she was comforting the person that had supposedly cheated on her. She just couldn't stand seeing Crystal so upset. She couldn't just stand by and do nothing.

Crystal calmed her breathing.

"Gigi, I swear on my life I was not cheating on you." She pulled her face away from Gigi's chest to look her in the eye, mustering up all the sincerity she could find. "I really can't tell you what I was doing. But I was with Daya. She might still be awake; call her if you want proof."
