"So is this good? It's finally done?"
That's it. The invention that shall get you the job we need to make a change. Now clean this up and take a shower. You kind of... stink.
"You never hesitate to find a way to insult me."
I said this as I threw the remaining materials in their corner of the garage. The tools I had bought were put away, and I headed to my bedroom. I took a shower and then put on a purple hoodie and some jeans. I put my glasses on and headed downstairs, back to the invention.
"So they should be here in... twenty seconds."
I looked at my watch as I said this.
Turn it on. Leave it on. Make them ask questions.
I turned on the invention and watched a pentagram form in the arch I made. Quickly more symbols and letter joined it, and it turned from that to a square, to a triangle, and then a circle. This happened multiple times very quickly until suddenly they napped together and I could see into a different dimension.
"So... what's this place anyways?"
Where I come from. Copper-9 from the show Murder Drones.
"I see. Looks very... barren."
Just go to the door. They should be about to knock.
I walked into the house through a side door and heard the doorbell.
"Well you were wrong. The rang the doorbell."
Well, it's not like I can be right the entire time.
I walked to the door and heard through it:
"Sir... I'm detecting a spike in that anomalous energy we detected at the blacksite when the power went out."
I opened the door after the sentence was said and say three people. One looked like those guard types. One looked like the scientist type. The other... was just that guard I touched on the shoulder.
"So... I'm guessing this is more than just a friendly visit to see if I'm prospering after the whole ordeal?"
The others seemed to become tight lipped besides the guard in front.
"Yes. We were... just coming to pick you up. We were considering recruiting you into... our business. What's that in the background?"
I looked behind me. I left the garage door open a bit, so wind could be heard through the portal.
"Wind."
"Wind?"
"Yeah. It's wind."
"Inside... your house?"
The scientist guy then spoke up and practically shoved a device with a screen on it into the guy's face.
"That has to be connected to the spikes in the energy."
The guard pushed the person away and cleared his throat.
"I'm sorry... but we're going to have to search your house."
"Go for it. Just don't take any of my food."
I was serious on the food thing. I hated that prison food, and having sushi again felt like heaven. Anyways, they entered the house and practically went straight for the garage door. The scientist went in first after pushing past the guard guy and the new guard. They didn't complain though. He must've outranked them. I walked in after them and the scientist guy was... well he was enamored by the portal.
"What the fuck is this?"
That's what I heard when I walked in. He pushed his hand in, and then immediately pulled it back.
"It's... cold on the other side. Really cold."
"Obviously. It looks cold there, so it's cold there."
That was me. The scientist guy came up to me and said,
"My name's Nick, and I have to ask so many questions now. Like how you made... this, where it goes, and if I can have the blueprints."
"Well then Nick, pull up a chair. This report you're going to have to make is going to be a long one."
The other guards were putting their hands in and out of the portal. It was so interesting to them that they could go from just my house to a cold ass place that definitely wasn't earth. I sat down in a chair in the garage, and then I began talking. Not about me. I started talking about the DPC. I talked about how they were coming for me, and how they'd even errase Urbanshade off the map if they knew too much about them. The scientist had a notebook out and wrote everything down. They were given the blueprints, and then I headed back to the place where I was going to be interviewed with them. In the truck though I said,
"Shame I had to work so hard on that portal."
It was the two guards and then a lot of other guards with them. The main guy was confused, and then J pulled out a trigger and pressed it.
"Can't have the DPC finding out anything though."
Over the radio of the main guard somebody said,
"S-sir. The whole house imploded. We were outside and about to go in when it all just collapsed in on itself and left nothing."
The guy looked at me. I put away the trigger. Virus had changed me. A lot. He wasn't in control though. Neither was I. We worked together as one. A situation like with venom you could say. The only difference being instead of enhancing my physical attributes, he helped my strengthen my knowledge. That was the day that confirmed me an important spot in Urbanshade. The tide of our war had changed.
