It was daytime, the sun was shining over the Rathore mansion where Rajeshwari was sitting on the couch with Amar and Ambika.  Muskan’s photograph was in Rajeshwari’s hand.

Rajeshwari: I have chosen this girl for Sameer.

Ambika looked at her hand. Rajeshwari passed the photo to Amar, and Ambika was looking at their hands. Amar saw the Muskan’s picture and smiled.

Rajeshwari: Her name is Muskan.

Amar: she is pretty and seems to be from a good family.

Amar passed the photo to his wife.

Rajeshwari: she belongs to a good family.

Ambika liked Muskan and smiled.

Ambika: she is pretty. She will be best for our Sameer.

Rajeshwari smiled.

Amar: but who is she? I am her family background and all.

Rajeshwari: I have gotten all the information. Do you know Aalok Chauhan?

Amar thought. Amar tried to remember.

Amar: Aalok Chauhan?

Rajeshwari: he is the owner of Chauhan textile mills.

Amar: yes, yes, Chauhan textile mills. Aalok Chauhan. We have met one or two times at business events and parties.

Rajeshwari: yes. She is his daughter.

Amar: They are the respectable citizens.

Rajeshwari nodded.

Rajeshwari: yes, and this girl is very well mannered.

Ambika: have you met her?

Rajeshwari: not personally, but I saw her in the park. There, I noticed her keenly. She is beautiful, but her heart is also beautiful like her.

Amar: what if she was engaged?

Rajeshwari: no, she is single. I have inquired about her. The people are approaching Chauhans for her alliance. They have many proposals for Muskan, so we have to hurry.

Amar: if you say so, we will go there tomorrow.

Ambika was surprised.

Ambika: I think we should have asked Sameer first.

Rajeshwari was shocked, and she got offended.

Ambika: after all, it is his life.

Rajeshwari: in our family, the elders choose the girls or boys for their children. It has been our family’s tradition for years.

Ambika was looking at Rajeshwari, and Amar looked at Ambika.

Rajeshwari: our marriages were fixed by our elders and our children’s marriages will also be fixed by us.

Ambika: but that time was different now, time has changed. Now...

Rajeshwari interrupted her.

Rajeshwari: nothing has changed. Our traditions are the same. Our children’s marriages will be fixed by us. It was our family’s tradition, it is our family’s tradition, and it will be our family’s tradition even after us. No one is above our customs. Did you get that?

Ambika looked on. Amar was looking at them.

Amar: Ambika, why are you arguing with Maa? If Maa has said, then we have to obey her. No one is superior to her.

Ambika was shocked, and she looked on. Rajeshwari showed attitude.

Amar: And your beloved son has not come down from the sky. Sameer will have to do what Maa says. Understood.
