Mamas Pov
I woke up to find my little one curled up against me on the couch, her thumb slipping into her mouth. Her eyes took on a distant, dreamy look, and I realized she was slipping into an infant headspace, something that hadn't happened in a while.
She must have had a bad dream, but she hadn't told me. I could see the traces of tears on her cheeks and a little furrow in her brow.
Gently, I lifted her into my arms. "Oh, my sweet little one," I cooed softly, brushing a stray lock of hair from her forehead. "Mama's got you. Let's get you all snug and comfy, okay?" She blinked up at me, her eyes glassy with sleepiness.
I carried her to the bedroom, where we kept a few items for her little times. As I laid her down on the bed, I spoke softly, keeping my voice soothing and calm. "We're going to get you into a nice, dry diaper and your favorite onesie, isn't that right, precious?"
Little one gazed up at me with trusting eyes, her thumb still nestled in her mouth. She gave a small nod, her eyes drooping. As I put a diaper on her, I made silly faces to keep her calm and smiling. "Such a good girl," I murmured. "Mama's so proud of you."
Once she was settled, I reached for her favorite onesie, a soft green garment adorned with little dragon scales and a cute hood with tiny dragon ears and a tail on the back. "Let's get you dressed, my love. Look how fierce and adorable you're going to be!"
As I guided her arms and legs into the onesie, I continued to coo and chat softly. "There we are, all bundled up. Mama loves her little dragon so much."
I lifted her back into my arms, cradling her gently. "Now, let's go back to the living room, and I'll get you a nice warm bottle. Would you like that, sweet pea?"
She nodded, her eyes already drooping with relaxation. I carried her back to the couch, where I settled with her in my lap. As I offered her the bottle, I watched her latch on with a soft sigh, her eyes fluttering closed. I gently patted her bottom to soothe her, feeling her relax further in my arms.
"Drink up, baby girl," I whispered, rocking her gently. "Mama's here, and everything's okay."
As she finished her bottle, I began to hum a lullaby, one of her favorites:
"Sleep, my little dragon, close your eyes tight,
Dream of flying high in the starry night.
With wings so wide, you'll soar and glide,
Safe in my arms, I'm right by your side. The moon will watch and the stars will guide,
While you drift off on a gentle tide.
Rest, my dear, no need for fear,
Mama will hold you, always near."Her breathing slowed and deepened as she nestled closer, finally drifting off to sleep. I held her a little longer, cherishing the peace of the moment and the love we shared.
As I gazed down at her, a feeling of awe washed over me. Her tiny form was relaxed and content, her little chest rising and falling gently with each breath.
"I will always be here for you and protect you," I whispered softly, brushing a kiss across her forehead. "My little dragon."
There was a gentle knock on the door...
