"Thad! No! I am not going to deal with your pet rat!" A woman angrily shouted at Thad. "Your pet, your responsibility!"
"Lizzy! Come on!" Another man said pleadingly, probably Thad.
"We promised a party! Your idea!" The woman retorted, coming through the door, glaring at a boy with blonde hair, green eyes and a football shirt. Yep. Thad hasn't changed one bit.
And there's Lizzy, still bickering with her little brother. Oh gods did she look a tad bit older than before. She had dark circles under her eyes, her hair was in a messy bun rather than a low ponytail and a scowl that quickly retreated when she laid eyes on me.
"Venus Stewart? Is that you, bestie?" Lizzy asked, a slow grin spreading across her face as she walked towards me to the kitchen counter, putting her hands on her hips.
I chuckled, setting my cup down and crossed my arms over my chest.
"Mhm. The one and only. How you've been, Liz?" I asked, patting her back when she hugged me quickly.
"Hi Vee! What's up?" Thad pointed finger guns at me.
"Yeah, hi Thad." I nodded towards Thad and looked over to his sister.
"Oh, it's amazing. Little Rosie is already entering kindergarten, her mum is still beautiful as always, I quit that gods-awful marketing job and I'm still waiting for the company I interviewed for's response." Lizzy responded to me, grinning from ear-to-ear.
"That sounds great, Liz. I'm happy for you. Tell Doll and Rosie I said hi." I smiled at her.
"Will do!" She chuckled. "What about you? How's it going?" She gestured to me.
"Nothing much, really. I got hired for the local market down my apartment, still figuring out my life, really." I admitted, shoving my finger except for my thumb in my jeans' front pockets.
"Ah, it's alright, babe. You'll figure it soon enough. As of now, just enjoy the party, yeah? The night's young. You'll never get a night like this when you're a mother at 28." She chuckled sheepishly.
"Thanks, Lizzy. And Rosie is lucky to have you and Doll in her life. She'll grow up as the best woman around with her mums by her side." I patted Lizzy's arm.
"Thanks to that too, Vee. Well, I gotta go, I'll see you later." Lizzy excused herself, about to go through the doorpost until she called out to me behind her shoulder.
"One thing. Don't agree to Thad asking you to take care of his rat upstairs. Hideous thing." She shuddered and disappeared into the hallway.
"No rat business. Got it." I muttered to myself, nodding as I took a sip of my cup of beer.
I stood silently in the kitchen, sipping down my beer until I finished it.
...
Maybe I should check on Noah. You know, check on his progress with his crush mission. I did exactly that, leaving my empty cup in the trash bag, and walked into the dimly lit room with blasting music and a couple of people then and there.
I walked through the living room, a little spin the bottle game happening on the coffee table near the couch but no Noah. I banked left, in the dining room this time, I squinted my eyes, seeing no one I know.
I sighed and looked over to the glass sliding doors in the middle of the yellow-ish wallpaper in front of the rectangular brown dining table.
I raised an eyebrow and curiousity got the best of me so I went through the doors and into the backyard, complete with an illuminated pool. Wow. What kind of house party doesn't have a pool, am I right? That's sarcasm, by the way.
