Three months later,
Today, I was working from home since I didn't feel like changing my pjs and looking presentable for work.
Truly, the benefits of being the CEO of your own company. Plus, they didn't need me at work today.
I was in my office, reading documents when my office phone started ringing. I picked it up, knowing it's from work and I was right; It was one of my employees having some inquiries about the new changes on our project.
After 15 minutes on the phone, I heard a subtle knock on my door before my mother popped her head in.
I smiled at her, gesturing her in in as I ended the phone call. ''Hey mom. Do you need something?''
''I didn't know you were here.'' She commented before walking in, looking at me curiously before coming to stand next to me.
She looked down at the papers in front of me before looking up at my open computer. ''Sometimes, I wish you took over my company rather than your dad's.''
I smirked, leaning back and crossing my arms. ''One of your sons is not doing a bad job. He's pretty good.''
I praised my oldest brother, Blake who was running the company just fine. There was increase in sales in his era compared to my mom but not as significant as mine with dad's company.
My mother chuckled before shaking her head. ''He's not making the company 20 billion dollars in a year.''
''Don't jinx it; we're not there yet.'' I exclaimed seriously, sitting up and started typing away at my computer but not before hearing my mother chuckle.
''Of course, your father had to teach you his superstitions.'' I didn't reply back and just let her linger around, reading some of my work as I mindless typed away at the screen.
I wasn't afraid of my mom finding out what's going on in my dad's company and the new project I'm running. They always fought before and didn't trust each other in the marriage which is why it fell apart.
And they competed for years on who would have the higher sales but thankfully, my brother and I let go of their toxic trait and trusted one another, including helping each other run the companies.
It brought benefit as both companies are doing very well.
''Are you not planning on going to Evelyn's parent-school meeting?'' My mother's question interrupting me as I immediately stopped whatever I was doing and turned to my mom.
''What?'' I frowned my eyebrows, surprised and confused at what my mom just said.
She seemed taken aback as I looked like I didn't know what she was talking about it. In fact, I didn't know what she was talking about it.
''Your daughter, Evelyn. She never told you?'' She asked and I once again, shook my head and getting frustrated as she wasn't being quick in elaborating.
''Well, since your daughter's grades have been terrible.'' My mother hissed, eyeing me with disappointment and really blaming me for my daughter's failure in school. ''The school scheduled a private one on one teacher and parent meeting today.''
She paused and I pondered for a minute. Why am I just hearing about this?
''I thought that's why you didn't go to work today but it seems like you don't know anything about what's happening with your kids.'' She continued, judging me which made me angry and I Immediately stood up.
My mom jumped back a little and I was holding my tongue from hissing back. ''Don't start with that Melissa propaganda bullshit. I didn't know, okay?! Evelyn never told me.''
