Year 10

The elevator doors opened as I walked out and headed to my wife's office. I had food in my hand, knowing that she probably skipped lunch as she lost track of time.

I halted when I saw an unknown woman sitting and typing away on the secretary's desk.

I frowned my eyebrows since I didn't recognize her but her blonde hair and blue eyes were very appealing if I could say. That woman looked like she came out of a playboy's magazine.

I wonder what happened to the previous secretary.

''Hello, Can I help you?'' She asked, looking up at me as I removed the frown on my face quickly so she wouldn't catch it.

''I'm Ava's wife, Melissa.'' I introduced myself, watching her eyes light up and a smile decorated her face.

Her smile looks like a toothpaste commercial. Call me a hater but this girl is way too pretty to be sitting on a desk job. She should be a model or something.

''Oh my god, I have heard so much about you!'' She stood up and walked from around her desk to stand in front of me.

She offered her hand for me to shake which I took hesitantly.

''I'm the new secretary, Daniella. You are so lucky to have a wife as amazing and considerate as Ava.''

I faked a smile as she complimented my wife. I don't know why I was acting strange around this woman but it's either just a gut instinct or paranoia.

Maybe, it's jealousy but I will pretend that I didn't just say that.

''I was an intern and your wife has been so patient with me with all the mistakes I've made. I really thought I was going to get fired.'' She chuckled at her own joke as I raised my eyebrows in surprise.

Really? Mistakes, huh? Ava tolerating mistakes at work? That's unusual.

If anything, Ava takes her job with the outmost seriousness than anything she has done in her life.

''But your wife has been so forgiving and helped me so much to adapt here. I'm so grateful.'' I hummed at what she said, faking even a brighter smile.

Forgiving, huh? Yeah, it has nothing to do with the way you look, honey.

Now, my mood is just sour.

Daniella clearly couldn't sense my discomfort as she continued smiling at me and gesturing me to just walk into my wife's office. She didn't have to tell me twice.

I walked in, seeing my wife stand in front of her big window, hands in pocket and lost in thought.

I slammed the door shut to grab her attention which it worked; She jumped around and turned with panic written on her face, startled at my big entrance.

''Baby, you scared me.'' She exhaled a sight of relief as I dropped the bag of food on her desk, standing a couple feet away from her.

She approached, pecking my lips as the fake annoyed smile plastered my face while she didn't notice it yet. She looked through the bag and smiled down at the food.

''How do you always seem to know when I'm starving?'' She questioned, looking up and catching me still smiling cheekily but I know it reach my eyes.

''You okay?'' She asked, frowning her eyebrows as she saw right through me.

Of course, she would notice unlike that blonde outside. We've been married for ten years and the only way she wouldn't notice, if she was blind.

''You look mad.'' She said carefully as she approached me, leaving the bag of food on her table as she stood directly in front of me.
