BRYNLEIGH HAD OPTED out of going into the maze with Thomas and Minho last minute due to another panic attack.
She didn't understand why they came on certain days and not others. Nonetheless, she stood with the rest of the group anxiously waiting for the boys to return from the maze. From what they had heard from outside, it didn't sound like things were going well in there.
Brynleigh exhaled, letting go of a breath she didn't realize she was holding in when the duo ran out of the maze doors, panting for air.
"What the hell's going on out there?" Newt instantly questioned.
"What the hell you done now, Thomas?" Gally accused causing Brynn to roll her eyes.
"We found something, a new passage. We think it could be a way out." Thomas informed, soley talking to Newt and ignoring Gally.
"Really?""It's true," Minho confirmed. "We opened a door, something I'd never seen before. I think it must be where the Grievers go during the day."
"Wait, whoa, whoa, whoa! You're saying you found the Grievers' home? And you want us to go in?" Chuck deadpanned.
"Their way in could be our way out, Chuck."
"Yeah, or there could be a dozen Grievers on the other side. The truth is, Thomas doesn't know what he has done, as usual." Gally exclaimed.
This time, instead of taking Gally's jabs as usual, Thomas turned around to face him. "Yeah, at least I did something, Gally. I mean, what have you done? Aside from hide behind these walls all the time?"
Brynleigh didn't try to hide the enlarging smile that sat on her lips at Thomas' remark. She couldn't help but feel a sense of pride at seeing Thomas defend himself.
"Let me tell you something, Greenie. You've been here 3 days, all right? I've been here 3 years!" Gally shot back.
"Yeah, you've been here 3 years and you're still here, Gally! What does that tell you? Maybe you should start doing things a little differently."
"Maybe you should be in charge, what about that?""Hey, it's Alby! He's awake." Teresa interrupted.
The group didn't hesitate to follow Teresa into the medical hut where Alby was being cared for.
"Has he said anything?" Minho asked as he entered the room.
"No."
Newt moved his head downwards so he could look up into Alby's eyes, "Alby, are you all right?"
He gained no response from the man which started to worry the curly-haired girl. She decided to test the waters and speak up.
"Alby? It's me, Brynn. Are you okay?" She asked gently.
His eyes flickered to hers before returning back to staring into space.
"Hey, Alby. Alby, we might have just found a way out of the maze. Do you hear me? We could be getting out of here." Thomas tried.
"We can't. We can't leave. They won't let us." Alby croaked, his gaze not wavering.
"What are you talking about?"
"I remember." He replied.
"What do you remember?" Brynleigh spoke.
You and her. You two were always their favorite. Always. Why did you do this?" Alby answered, his words directed to Thomas and Brynleigh.
