Stiles dropped off Scott at the animal clinic before driving off to take me home.
"And there was something in the way he was staring at me. Like he couldn't believe what he was seeing." I was telling him about the way that Derek Hale was looking at me. Call me obsessed but I was starting to freak out a little.
"Maybe he's infatuated with you" he laughed at his own joke while i just glared at him.
We pulled up in front of my house my and I sighed when I saw my parents car.
"When'd they get back?" Stiles asked knowing what my sigh meant.
"I don't know, they weren't here this morning." I reply.
"You wanna stay over my house?"
"Nah it's okay. They probably won't realise I'm home so..."
There was a bit of silence between us and I could tell he really had no idea what to say to me.
"Well, I better go," he states.
"Ok. See you tomorrow." I got out of the Jeep and made my way to the front door.
"GOOD LUCK" I heard Stiles call from behind me and when I turned around to reply he was already gone.
I take a deep breath, braced myself and walked through the front door.
"SKYLAR? IS THAT YOU?" I heard my dad call out causing me to sigh.
"YEAH IT'S ME" I yelled back. I saw him stick his head around the corner.
"Where were you?" He asks as he comes out into full view with my mum behind him.
"Out" I reply, wanting to head upstairs to bed.
"With...?" Oh so now he's interested in my life?
"Scott and Stiles. Now if you'll excuse me, I am really tired and would like to get to my bed so I can just sleep."
"Wait, we need to talk to you." He said with my mom appearing on the other side of him placing her hand on his shoulder.
"Can this wait for ... oh I don't know, some other time" I replied.
"No" said my mom looking really concerned.
I sighed again. "What?"
"We thought you were old enough to know by now," My dad started. That got my attention. "We were thinking of how much you had grown over the years and we were thinking of how much we had missed. How many important events we weren't here for."
"If you're telling me you finally realised what crappy parents you are and are apologising, it's fine. You really don't have to" I cut him off and started heading for the stairs again.
"No Skylar, what your father is trying to say is that we aren't living up to the expectations of what we're meant to be doing." My mom said. "What the letter told us to do".
"Letter? What letter? What are you talking about?" Now I'm confused. I haven't a conversation this long with my parents since I was probably 5.
"The letter your mother left for us." I looked at my mom and she just stared at me with tears streaming down her face. It took me a while to process what was happening and it became clear that she wasn't the one who wrote me a letter.
"You mean I'm adopted?" I asked shocked.
"Yes" my dad - adoptive dad replied.
"No. No, no that's - that's not true I'm your daughter you would've told me sooner if I wasn't, right?" I asked them unable to believe it. "Right?" I desperately asked them not wanting to believe my ears.
"Honey, we still love you. Even if you aren't really ours ..." my father tried to say.
"NO!" They jumped at my sudden outburst. I wasn't upset anymore, I was frustrated, angry. "Why didn't you tell me before, I'm 16 for goodness sake. You should've told me when I was like 8 or something. Did you even think about how I would feel? I barely see you for a week whenever your home because your always on business trips."
"Yes, because we wanted you to have your space and not feel like we're overbearing and suffocating and ..." my father, no Greg tried say but I interrupted him.
"No. You think I like that? My friends always see their parents. They are always there for them after school. I just wanted to see you guys. I wanted you to be there for me. I wanted to come home from school knowing that I would be greeted by a nice warm hug and have the familiar smells and sounds of a normal house. Where my father would be working in the office, typing away on his laptop and my mom would be in the kitchen cooking a nice home cooked meal. But you were never there. Ever." I shook my head softening my voice getting dangerously silent. "So I don't care if you're not my biological parents. I don't care.Because it's like I never had parents to begin with".
Rhonda was now sobbing on Greg's shoulder hysterically and Greg had the biggest look of shock written all over his face. "Skylar.." But I didn't bother hearing the rest of it. I ran upstairs, slammed the door before locking it, fell onto my bed and for the first time on a long time cried.
