I was sitting on the couch of my small apartment, staring out the window at the unusual sight of snow falling during the hot summer. "Snow in summer?" I asked myself. I couldn't believe what my eyes seeing right now. As I rubbed them in disbelief, I noticed a shadow moving in the corner of my room.
*Startled, Niran and the shadow jumped up and shouted, "Who's there? Show yourself!"
They both hesitated for a moment before stepping into the light. It was a figure that looked just like Niran but somehow different. They both stood there, staring at each other, unsure of what to make of the situation.
After a few moments of awkward silence, they cautiously introduced themselves, and I asked. "Why a shadow like you can speak?". The shadow responds, "Huh? Me? A shadow? It's you who suddenly appeared in my room are the one who is a shadow that can speak". A deafening silence had happened for a moment before I asked the shadow's name.
"Who are you? What is your name?" I asked.
"Thanakrit is my name. How about you?"
"I'm Niran; It's my first day living here alone in this apartment because I'm becoming a freshman this school year."
"Don't you have a family?"
"I have but we have to be separated so I can achieve my dreams."
"Ohh, lucky you, I didn't have a chance to meet my parents," a tone of sadness from Thanakrit's voice.
As they talked and shared their stories, Niran and Thanakrit realized the truth - they had accidentally crossed paths between their two worlds, and they only saw each other as a shadow in the wall.
Over time, they grew comfortable with each other's presence and formed an unlikely friendship. Niran, who aspired to be a writer and a singer, found inspiration in Thanakrit's unique perspective on life. In another universe, Thanakrit finds a new family, even if it's just a shadow. It fulfills his heart that this is the first time he feels heard, not unheard.
Meanwhile, at the university where Niran occasionally attended writing workshops, he encountered Saeng, a charismatic and youthful professor.
"Excuse me? Are you lost?"
"Yes, sir, the university is quite big compared to my school during high school."
"Ohh, so you're here for the entrance examination?"
"Yes sir, I want to be a writer."
"Don't worry, I'll accompany you. The location of the entrance examination is in the library, and I'm also going there for research, so it's fine."
"Thank you, sir."
Saeng is a science teacher who accompanies Niran on his entrance examination.
