CHAPTER ONE       :         SPILT MILK

.·:*¨ ¨*:·.

I know it sounds a bit entitled, but I've always felt too smart for this school. Everyone is practically absorbed by their phones in this place, uninterested in picking up a book and making a grade over a D.

And for a while, I'd try to minimize my abilities and be like everyone else ... but that didn't last long. It wouldn't matter anyway, my classmates would still criticize but mainly my least favorite person, Ashley. We used to be friends in fifth grade until I quote on quote 'became more interested in words on paper than boys' which is a dumb statement in itself.

Now all she does is make fun of me.

But I don't care about anything these people have to say anymore — I plan to get my diploma and move far far away from this town.

Second period is in session and Mr. Johnson is teaching us Algebra 2. I already know it but I still listen intently unlike some people ... Ashley has to always make herself known. She now pops her gum as loudly as she can — slightly overshadowing Mr. Johnson's lesson.

I watch Mr. Johnson notice briefly but he doesn't say anything. Nobody does actually and you'd be surprised how much this happens.

My school is extremely cliche with its hierarchy. It's like we're in a cheesy 80's movie where there are the popular kids, the jocks, and the nerds (and you can already assume what category I fall into)

Even though I know it's not gonna happen, I wish someone would tell her to stop. We have a test tomorrow and I want to make sure I'm prepared.

I tap my pencil softly on my desk in annoyance. I glance at the blonde just to see her ignorance. She has the nerve to have her beat-up kitty heels on the desk, crossed like she'd own it. I turn back biting my lip, trying to conceal a confrontation that I impulsively can't hold.

I turn back to Ashley, "Hey Ashley ..." I call softly which immediately gets her attention. She raises an eyebrow at me as I continue,

"Could you stop? Other people are trying to pay attention."

Ashley quickly scoffs, "Just speak for yourself einstein." She harshly responds, "No one is as much of a school freak as you."

Ooos erupt throughout the classroom and instantly I'm embarrassed. I shake my head, knowing that I couldn't let Ashley just say that without saying something back.

"At least it does me well." I spit back, "How's peaking in high school doing for you?"

Ashley scoffs as more reactions now get Mr. Johnson's attention. I can hear his tired sigh behind me as I and Ashley stare off into each other's eyes with heated glares, secretly daring one another to break first. I can assume this because I know Ashley. And I also know that she's not very good at staring contests. I hear her tiny grunt when I win.
