I grabbed the mail from the table. I squinted at an envelope that had an unfamiliar return address. I got even more confused when I realized that it was from the mundane world. I ripped the envelope open. My eyes widened when I saw familiar handwriting on the paper. No. It can't be his... it is. It's Jake's handwriting. Jamie was sitting on her bed. I glanced over at our daughters, who were fast asleep. "Jamie, you need to see this. It's from Jake," I whispered. She immediately shot up and came over to me. Silently, we read the letter.

Dear Ella and Jamie,

First of all, I would like to congratulate you both on your marriages to Thomas and Chris. I hear you both have daughters now. Secondly, I am deeply sorry for how I treated you both. I was young and stupid when I agreed to hunt you, Amelia, and Lilly down. The truth is, I was hurt that you did not tell me that you were hybrids, that you did not trust me enough. I selfishly wanted you to feel the same way, so I reported you to the Hybrid Hunters. I was planning on leaving it at that, but then the Hybrid Hunters told me that they would not pay me the $30,000 each if I didn't help hunt you down. I felt horrible, but I needed the money to pay for my grandmother's keyhole brain surgery, which cost $50,000. I had to save her. I really hope you believe me when I say that I truly did not intend to kill Lilly. Or Amelia, for that matter. You see, I had figured out that the four of you were wearing bulletproof vests. I aimed where I knew it would hit the vest, but not low enough that the Hybrid Hunters would realize I wasn't aiming to kill. Since Lilly jumped in the way and was shorter than Amelia... Anyway, I completely understand if you do not want to give me another chance, but please consider it. Now, I have a magical wife, Daisy. She has the power to control and create electricity and we believe this will be passed on to our daughter, Elizabeth. Wouldn't it be amazing if our children could grow up together as friends like we did? If you are willing to meet up, I will wait for you at Lakewood Garden on July 17th, so you will have plenty of time to decide. I will be there all day. My current address is 4475 Briery Rd, Keysville, VA 23947. I really hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Jake Grey

We read the letter several times with tears in their eyes. We knew that we were in great danger and likely wouldn't be able to meet with Jake. We wanted to give him another chance. Jamie snapped her fingers and her old journal appeared. She quickly taped the letter into the back of the journal. Then snapped her fingers again, sending the journal back to the dragon cave. "I hope that will help them someday...they will know to trust Jake," I whispered. Jamie's daughter, Vivian was still fast asleep, but my daughter, Lilly stirred and stared at us, confused. "Who's Jake?"
