Warning: triggers of insecurity/self confidence and image issues

Despite it being school, Hilda never showed up to any classes. She was in the dorms when I got there, and was gone when I woke up. But never in any class. I assumed maybe we had different classes, as she was a year older. That wouldn't explain why I never saw her in the halls or in the courtyard. I noticed a lot at my time here. Being quiet and shunned allowed me to be able to view everyone. I noticed everyone's petals, the nice parts of them that attract people towards them, and their thorns, the parts that sting. Hilda for example, her petals can be described as a dark blue. She was an outgoing, bittersweet person who showed a hidden kindness. Her thorns were hidden and sharp. They wouldn't prick unless you went looking for them. I noticed a lot about other people too. Rose girl, her name is Leah. She's the most beautiful rose in every bunch, but her thorns are sharp and draw blood when touched. Her posh group of friends had similar petals, but less sharp thorns. There was one flower that caught my eye. The flower I'd been looking for since I could remember. The flower that glows in the sun, that everyone loved to admire. Prince Stefan. That boy was so dreamy. I knew he would never notice me. I wasn't as beautiful as the fair Leah. He had his eye on her all the time. And never once did he glance at me. With that I was determined to become beautiful. So my prince would be mine.

That night I gathered myself and went to Hilda. "Make me beautiful." She looked at me from her sewing table. "With time dear." I stood aghast. Hilda, another beautiful flower, refused to teach me the secrets of pretty petals. I wanted to be angry at her and demand my requests. I couldn't. So I sat on my bed and admit defeat. Except, it wouldn't be defeat, it would be a consequence.
