Vedika's PoV
It was almost 7 in the evening, and I was ready to go to the party. I looked at myself in the mirror and barely recognized the reflection staring back. This wasn't the usual me, but a version that seemed more confident and undeniably pretty.
"Come on, Vedika, let's go! We're getting late," urged Tasha, her excitement palpable.
As we descended the stairs, the entire family gathered around us. Their gazes of admiration made me blush.
"Wow, beta, you both look stunning," said Damini Dadi, her eyes twinkling with warmth.
Damini Dadi is completely different from my dadi. I often wonder how they are even best friends.
"Thank you, Dadi," Tasha and I chorused, smiling.
"Beta, don't be late, okay? I want you two home before 12, and always stick together," Swarna Aunty instructed, her voice filled with concern.
"We will, Aunty," we promised.
While everyone was chatting, I felt a constant gaze on me. I knew exactly who it was. I glanced to my left and met his eyes. Advay was sitting on the sofa, his intense stare making my heart race. I quickly looked away, focusing on the floor. It was too hard to match the intensity of his eyes.
"Tasha, keep your live location on so that we can track you," he said, his voice firm.
"Okay, bhaiya," she responded with a playful roll of her eyes.
"And no drinking," he added, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.
"Of course, bhaiya. What do you think of me?" Natasha teased, but there was a hint of sincerity in her voice.
Advay's eyes flicked to me again, and I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks. I tried to ignore the fluttering in my stomach, the way my heart seemed to beat faster just knowing he was watching me. His gaze was protective, almost possessive, and it made me feel both nervous and excited.
When we reached the party, it was in full swing. The pulsating beats of the music could be heard from a distance, and the entire house was bathed in colorful lights, making it look almost magical. People were everywhere—dancing, chatting, laughing. This was my first time experiencing something like this, and I was both excited and nervous.
The living room was transformed into a dance floor, with a DJ stationed in one corner, spinning tracks that made everyone move. A huge chandelier hung above, casting shimmering lights on the dancing crowd. The walls were adorned with balloons and streamers, and a large banner reading "Happy Birthday, Maya!" was draped across one wall.
In the corner, a lavish spread of food and drinks was set up, with waiters moving around offering hors d'oeuvres. There was a bar at the far end, with a bartender skillfully mixing drinks.
"Wow, this place is amazing!" Natasha exclaimed, her eyes wide with excitement.
"I know, right?" I replied, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer energy of the place.
"Hey, Natasha! Vedika!" a voice called out. We turned to see Maya, the birthday girl, making her way toward us. She looked stunning in a sequined dress, her smile bright and welcoming.
"Maya, happy birthday!" we both chimed in.
"Thank you! I'm so glad you guys could make it. Come on, let's get you some drinks!" Maya said, pulling us toward the bar.
"I'll just have a soda," I said quickly.
"Same here," Natasha added.
"Come on, it's a party! But if that's what you want," Maya said with a playful pout before ordering our drinks.
As we sipped our sodas, Natasha nudged me. "Hey, let's go dance!"
I hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Okay, let's do it."
We moved to the dance floor, where the music was loud and the energy was contagious. I tried to let go of my nerves and just enjoy the moment. Natasha was already in her element, dancing with abandon. I started to loosen up, swaying to the beat.
"See, isn't this fun?" Natasha shouted over the music.
I laughed. "Yeah, it is!"
After a while, we took a break and found a quieter corner to catch our breath.
"Natasha, I'm going to the washroom. You wait here," I said.
As I finished my business and was heading back to Natasha, I took a wrong turn into a more secluded corner of the house. That's when I spotted the same boys who had troubled me at school. My heart sank. Oh god, not again.
They noticed me almost immediately. "Look who we have here, boys," the boy whom I had slapped sneered, his eyes gleaming with malice. The others laughed, echoing his predatory tone.
"Hey, Vedika," one of the boy called out, stepping closer. "You here alone? Want some company?"
"Leave me alone," I said firmly, trying to keep my voice steady. "I'm not interested in talking to you."
"Oh, playing hard to get, are we?" another boy mocked, his eyes roaming over me in a way that made my skin crawl. "Come on, we're just trying to be friendly."
"Yeah, very friendly," the boy whom I slapped added, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Don't be so stuck up, Vedika. You should learn to have some fun."
"I said leave me alone," I repeated, my voice louder now, filled with more conviction. "I'm not going to stand here and listen to your filthy comments."
On of the boy stepped even closer, and I instinctively took a step back, hitting the wall. "You think you're better than us?" he hissed. "Just because you're new here? Let's see how tough you really are."
I raised my hand to slap him, just like I did in school, but this time he was prepared. He caught my wrist mid-air and twisted it painfully, forcing a yelp from my lips.
"Not so fast," he growled, his face inches from mine. The stench of alcohol on his breath made me nauseous.
"Let go of me!" I screamed, trying to pull away, but his grip tightened.
"Oh, we're just getting started," they said, grabbing my other arm. The two of them began to drag me toward a dark, empty room at the end of the hall.
"Help! Somebody, help me!" I yelled, but the music from the party drowned out my cries.
"Shut her up," I heard some say , his voice cold and menacing.
They clamped a hand over my mouth, muffling my screams. "No one's going to hear you, princess. You're all ours now."
Tears streamed down my face as I struggled against them, kicking and writhing, but they were too strong. They forced me into the dark room, slamming the door shut behind us. Panic surged through me as they pushed me to the ground.
"You should have just been nice," the boys whom I slapped said, his voice a sinister whisper in the darkness. "Now you'll learn your lesson."
They left after locking me in the dark room.
"Please open the door I am scared of darkness"
I continued to fight, using every ounce of strength I had, but it felt hopeless. The darkness closed in around me, and all I could do was pray for a miracle.
