Chapter 18

The sky turned dark as the sun dipped below the horizon, its vibrant colours giving way to darkness. Rohan sat by himself on the terrace lost in the silence of dusk. His eyes remained fixed on the vast expanse of sky before him. His turmoil mirrored the darkness of the night sky, his thoughts were not about the football match which is about to take place the next day but about one of his best friends whom he could rely upon at any situation, yes your guess is right he was thinking about Adwaitha. Right from the moment when Ayaan asked Adwaitha to wear his team's jersey he felt disturbed from within, this feeling wasn't new to him this was something he had always tried to avoid. He started getting a few flashes from the past which he desperately wanted to forget. It was the same time his mobile buzzed with a call, his eyes flickered towards the screen only to see Adwaitha's name flashing on the screen. With a deep breath he picked up the call

"Heyy dumboo how many times should I call you what are you doing without picking the call" She yelled making him chuckle at her annoyance

"Sorry sorry cheppu emi ayindhi" He replied in telugu with a smile evident in his voice making her gasp as she had never seen him speaking in telugu which was her mother tongue.
(Sorry sorry tell me what happened)

"Heyyy wait did you just talk in telugu now"

"Avnu madam"
(Yes mam)

"Ok now come down stairs" She said with a small smile playing on her lips

He frowned being confused "What do you mean Adhwi?"

"Stop asking all these questions and come down idiot" Saying so she cut the call.

Having no other option he stood up to go downstairs, as he walked towards the stand he casually looked down only to find Adwaitha standing at the gate waving at him with a broad smile, he waved back at her and proceeded towards the gate.

"Heyy Adhwi what are you doing here?"

"I came to meet my best friend do you have any problem with it? " She asked narrowing her eyes at him.

"No not at all now did you meet your best friend? " He replied playing along

"Yes I did,I wanna talk with him"

"What's it madam?"

"Come on let's go on a walk" Saying so she dragged him to the road, he followed her like a puppy without uttering a word.

They walked side by side for quite a distance on their way they saw a street vendor selling roasted corn they got it and settled down in a bench. After what felt like eternity Adwaitha finally broke the ice between them

"Ro I know you are tensed about tomorrow's match that too especially after Ayaan's challenge, but remember it's just a game and it is not going to define you by any means either you win or lose it's all an experience don't let your spirits down and give your best"

Her words felt like a soothing balm to his heart, he felt light listening to her words he just smiled at her when he realized that she came all the way to meet him just to make sure he was ok

"What? Tell something na"

He just shook his head smiling "thank you so much Adhwi I really needed those words I feel light, but wait how did you know that I'm disturbed?"

"Idiot I know you since we were 3 years old don't act smart ok I can easily read your mind" She said playfully hitting his arm

"Umm.. Adhwi even Dhruv and Krish are gonna play with me tomorrow even they might be worried why didn't you meet them?" He asked gazing at her with curious eyes.

"I know about those buffalos too right now both for them would be happily dreaming about their respective crushes"

"We simply can't tell that they won't feel anything na?"

Adwaitha simply took out her mobile from her bag and called Dhruv, she put the call in speaker Dhruv picked up the call in the last ring true to Adwaitha's words they heard Desi boyz playing in full volume on the other side and they also hear Krishav singing with full enthusiasm

After hearing the commotion it didn't take rocket science for Rohan to understand what was going on he face palmed himself, Adwaitha cut the call with a chuckle

"Understood? " She asked raising her eyebrows at him

"Yess mam" He bowed down comically making her giggle

"By the way Adhwi are you going to wear Ayaan's team jersy tomorrow? " He asked her, his voice dulland filled with uncertainty

"Ek thappad dungi ab" She said giving him a death glare, by her mere look he understood that he messed up seeing her flare up with anger he gulped in fear.
(I'll slap you now)

"Areyy areyy don't get angry I was just messing up with you"

She turned away from him being annoyed, she was angry that he doubted if she would wear their opponent team's jersey even after knowing that she won't. Rohan sighed looking at her as he knew that he'll be having a tough time consoling her.

"Adhwii look here na I'll get you a chocolate" He used the trump card which was none other than chocolate but that didn't seem to work this time.

On their way back he tried his best to pacify her but all in vain. He was about to give up, he thought of asking Adharsh for help but luck seemed to be on his side that night. He spotted an ice cream shop nearby he thanked his stars as he knew Adwaitha can't resist desserts

"Adhwi come let's go have some ice cream" He dragged her inside before she could tell anything. He made her sit in the table and went to order their ice creams. He came back to their table with their order, she was still wearing a grumpy face Rohan sat before her and passed her the ice cream she started having it without bothering to notice him as she continued eating the ice cream she started melting little by little

"Adhwi yaar pls talk to me, will you talk if I do situps? " He immediately stood up and started doing situps, her eyes widened in shock as she didn't see it coming.

"Ro what is this? people are looking at us get up now"

"I'll stop only if you say you aren't mad at me"

"Okay okay I'm not mad at you get up now"

He stood up with a small smile playing on his lips, Adwaitha couldn't help but chuckle at his antics.

"Sorry yaar I know you won't wear their jersy but I don't know what made me ask that" He said scratching his neck. She smiled a little

"Let it be the first and the last time you get such doubts duffer I'm always loyal to my friends"

After finishing their ice cream they started walking towards their respective houses, they both felt their hearts light after spending time with each other. Rohan on the other hand who was disturbed earlier now was at ease he internally thanked his stars to have such a friend who knew about his mindset even without him telling it out, though his thoughts weren't about the match but her he felt calm and relaxed after spending some quality time with his best friend.
