A Different Reality (AU - MS Virat)

A/N - The idea formed during an important meeting where targets met with dreams and formed something weird.

Something different

"So I am being fired?"

"Of course not, MS! You are still the Vice President."

"Ok." MS stopped to breathe and then offered a tight smile. "So, just being demoted."

"We are sorry for the turn of events, MS, but it is for the company's benefit and I am sure that you will also align with us on that matter."

"Of course."

With a tug of the lapels of his Blackberrys, MS rose with a flair and strode to the closed cabin door.

"Um MS?" He paused for a moment. "You will need to clear out your cabin today. Your old office is, of course, made ready for you again."

"Of course."

Voice carefully modulated, MS walked out of the office and made his way back to his office, and took down every piece of the, admittedly, simple decorations he had put up.  Lovingly kept in place, each held a tiny piece of his heart and emotions.

"Sorry." He mumbled as he held onto a photo frame of his daughter and ran a thumb over the glass. Only the flimsiest bit of dust coated it. "Let us go back to our old home, princess."

Words mumbled, MS drew the door closed over his emotions and more, making his way out of the darkened cabin, only sparing a last glance for the thing he would miss the most; the view of the skyline canvassing the city highlights.

And he smiled.

Two days hence -

Their first meeting had been as awkward as he had expected and yet, Virat could not bring himself to regret it. He had not been half inclined to form friendships and it was also not why he had joined the company.

Especially with the ex-Chairperson, though they had a rather fancy way of calling them here - Captain. And Virat was not inclined to become the Captain of anywhere. He was quite satisfied with remaining the formal and not-so-friendly President.

"Sir?"

"Mr. Virat. I do not roll with the 'sir'. We are all professionals here. Why make it more familiar than needed?" Virat plucked a file from the newly arrived boy's hand and flipped through it. "And who may you be?"

"I am your assistant. Sir. Sorry, Mr. Virat. Rahul. K L Rahul."

"Well, thank you, Mr. K L." Virat handed back the file after reading through and signing it. His eyes found a painfully young boy with wavy hair and a prematurely serious look on his face. "Were you here before? It is better if we get to know each other's way of working."

The boy shook his head. "Not really. Mahi Bhai had Harry as he always has had. While I have worked with him, but not on a day-to-day basis. I had worked with Rahul Bhai; the Chairperson who preceded Mahi bhai."

The boy said all the things at a stretch and it took Virat a moment to completely understand him.

"Mahi Bhai?"

"Oh, that would be Mahendra Singh Dhoni... He was the Chairperson...." Rahul trailed off.

"The Chairperson I took the post of? Yeah... Such things happen, Rahul. No need to hesitate about it. And Mahi Bhai? Really? Very informal things are around here."

Virat chuckled but found no answering laughter from his assistant.

"He is Mahi Bhai for everyone. He treats all the staff members like his family. Would you need me for anything else, sir?"
