Shido's earpiece suddenly flared to life with a squawk the moment the AST team lead crashed through the ceiling. It was as if whatever was jamming the system had better things to do. Shido grabbed Yoshino's hand and dived behind some of the furniture that was in the warehouse.

"Shido, we have a very big problem. In fact, we have multiple very big problems." Kotori said from the other side of his earpiece.

"What happened to the earpiece?" Shido asked under his breath as he tried to comfort Yoshino.

Shido saw a whole bunch of AST members swarm into the building, but they did not fan out to look for them. No, they coalesced around the leader staring into the darkness. Shido could occasionally hear the sound of metal twisting in the dark. The sound sent a shiver down his spine like nails on a chalkboard.

"That is not important right now. You have to get out of there and bring "Hermit" with you." Kotori barked through the earpiece.

Shido did not have to wait for Kotori to finish her statement. He instantly started to comfort Yoshino until she was willing to move. Yoshino slowly stumbled to her feet and started to maneuver away from the AST while Shido guarded the rear.

That is when Shido heard one of the AST members say, "We can let the "Hermit" leave for now we have a monster to fry."

Shido heard a small chuckle coming from the darkness. It was not menacing but for some reason it sent shivers down his spine. Shido carefully helped Yoshino escape the confines of the warehouse but as they stepped outside, they were faced with the remaining AST force that stayed outside to secure the perimeter. Shido's eyes widened for a quick second before dragging Yoshino back into the warehouse. The space that they had just occupied was blown apart by an explosion.

Murphy was in a bit of a conundrum. She was in no physical shape to fight the AST head-to-head. At least not right now but waiting in the shadows for them to make the first move is also not a viable strategy. She had to make a move right now while she was still surging with adrenaline and energy. So, she decided on a trap and kill strategy.

As Kusakabe looked into the darkness she saw something move in the shadows. It was too fast to shoot but she knew it was there like a cornered animal. Then they saw her shoes peeking out of the dark. Kusakabe smiled as she pulled the trigger. This one deserved it, she did not like the idea of risking lives to kill Spirits, but this one must be ended. However, the moment the projectile hit the target she realized something was wrong. The darkness melted away for a split second revealing one of the more zealous AST members. The shoes that had been there the previous second were no longer there. As the darkness rushed up so did long thin tendrils that claimed their victim.

Kusakabe heard the scream of the AST member as she was dragged into the dark. The entire group paused for a moment debating whether or not to shoot wildly into the darkness hoping that they would eventually hit the intended target.

"Don't shoot, we don't want to accidentally hit ou–" Kusakabe's order was interrupted by an ear-piercing scream from their colleague. Which was then followed by a wet sickening crunching sound. A few seconds later the sound of something wet and heavy hit the floor.

Something flew out of the darkness. The bloody head of the AST member slammed into the Territory of one of the other members, but that was not the only thing that flew out of the dark. As the gruesomeness of the head distracted them a tendril followed and skewered the member dragging her into the darkness as well.
