Kara's curiosity was piqued, and she could not shake off the feeling that something was amiss. The image of Ms. Bianca sneaking out to meet the mysterious woman lingered in her mind like a puzzle she could not solve. She had always trusted her and she had been her constant companion since childhood, but now she wasn't sure.
The next day, Kara decided to confront Ms. Bianca, approaching her as she was arranging flowers in living room. "Ms. Bianca , can I ask you something?" Kara said, trying to sound casual despite her growing unease.
Ms. Bianca turned around, a hint of wariness in her eyes. "Of course, dear. What is on your mind?" Kara took a deep breath. "I saw you meeting someone last night, who was it?" Ms. Bianca's expression changed, and for a moment , Kara saw a flicker of fear before she regained her composure. "Oh, that? I was just meeting a friend for some charity event. Nothing to worry about, dear."
But Kara was not convinced. She noticed that Ms. Bianca 's hands were trembling slightly as she returned to arranging the flowers. Over the next few days, Kara started to notice strange behaviors from her nanny- whispered phone calls, nervous glances over her shoulder and overall air of secrecy that made Kara's instincts scream that something was off.
One evening, as she was getting ready for bed, Kara heard the sound of hushed voices coming from outside her room. She crept to the door and listened, her heart racing as she recognized Ms. Bianca's voice, speaking in urgent tones to someone else. What were they discussing? And who was this mysterious person?
That night, she decided to follow her nanny again, determined to uncover the truth. This time, she managed to sneak out of her room undetected and trailed Ms. Bianca to an old, abandoned cottage on the outskirts of the property.
Kara hid behind a bush, watching as Ms. Bianca entered the cottage with a mysterious woman from before. They spoke in hushed tones, but Kara caught snippets of their conversation: "the package ," "the master plan", and "the child's fate."
Suddenly, Ms. Bianca looked around nervously, as if she sensed being watched. Kara held her breath, hoping not to be discovered again.
Unfortunately, luck was not on Kara's side as she accidentally stepped on a broken bottle that made her scream in pain. The two ladies 'heart throbbed in fear as Ms. Bianca signaled the mysterious figure to disappear who was hesitant at first but later ran into the shadows of trees leaving her to attend to Kara.
Ms. Bianca rushed to Kara's side, her face a mix of concern and panic. "Kara, what are you doing here? I told you to stay in your room! Why do you keep on following me around?" She exclaimed, trying to help her up from the ground. Kara winced in pain, her foot bleeding from the broken glass. "I saw you...I saw you with that woman again," she accused, her voice shaking.
Ms. Bianca's expression changed, and for a moment, Kara saw a flash of something like fear or desperation in her eyes but then, her nanny's face softened, and she gently took Kara's foot to examine the wound. "Come, lets get you inside and clean this up," Ms. Bianca said, her voice calm and soothing once more. "we'll talk about that later, okay?"
As she led her back to the house, Kara could not shake off the feeling that her nanny was hiding something. And what about the mysterious woman? who was she and what did she want?
Once inside, Ms. Bianca tended to her wound, but Kara's mind raced with questions. She knew she had to confront Ms. Bianca again but this time, she had to be careful.
"If you won't tell me the entire truth, at least tell me who she is and why you always meet her in the night," Kara demanded as she stared straight in her eyes. For a moment, Ms. Bianca was quite unsure of what to say to this innocent soul that eagerly wanted to know the truth unaware of what it meant for her whole being.
Ms. Bianca sighed, her eyes darting around the room as if searching for an escape or a reprieve from the young girl's piercing gaze. She hesitated, then seemed to make a decision, her voice barely above a whisper. "Her name is Dora," She began, her words measured. "She's ...an old friend. Someone I have known for a very long time." Kara's eyes narrowed, "An old friend? Why do you meet her in secret and why does she always cover her face? I want to know Ms. Bianca."
"Oh child, some things are better left unspoken. Trust me, trust me, its for your own good." "Does it have anything to do with my parents?" Kara demanded.
Ms. Bianca's eyes flashed with a mixture of fear and sadness, and for an instant, Kara thought she saw a glimmer of tears but then, she slipped her mask back into place, and she stood up, her voice firm. "That's enough, Kara. Go to bed. We'll discuss this no further."
Looking at her nanny dawdling out of the bedroom, she knew she had struck a nerve. She was closer to the truth than ever before.
