The city was buzzing with life as Nischay walked through the familiar streets, his mind a whirlpool of memories.

He had been away for five years, the result of internal family conflicts that had driven a wedge between him and the love of his life, Nithya.

The separation had been painful, each passing day a reminder of what he had lost. Today, he sought solace in a quaint café he used to frequently visit before back to the time when he had her with him, hoping for a moment of peace amidst the chaos of his thoughts.

Nischay pushed open the café door, a small bell chiming above his head. The warm aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the soft hum of conversation enveloped him, a comforting contrast to the turmoil within.

He found a seat by the window, the same spot he used to sit with Nithya, sharing dreams and stolen glances. He ordered his coffee, trying to lose himself in the view outside.

Nithya had no intention of visiting the café that day. It was a spontaneous decision, driven by an inexplicable urge to revisit a place filled with memories she had tried from very long to bury. Bury deep inside her heart and never bring them out.

She walked in, her eyes scanning the room for an empty table. It was then that her heart skipped a beat. There, at a table by the window was Nischay. The shock of seeing him after all these years rendered her motionless for a moment.

She gathered her composure and chose a table adjacent to his, her heart pounding in her chest. She sat down, her mind racing with emotions she had tried to suppress.

She ordered a cup of tea, her hands trembling slightly as she reached for the menu. Her eyes, however.were drawn to Nischay, unable to look away.

Nischay felt a familiar presence before he saw her. He turned his head slightly and his heart lurched.

There she was, Nithya, sitting so close yet so distant. His eyes locked onto hers, a thousand unspoken words passing between them.

The memories of their time together flooded back, each one a bittersweet reminder of what they had shared and lost.

Neither of them spoke. The café seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of them, connected by a silent and intense gaze.

Nischay's eyes softened, conveying a mix of regret, longing and an apology he had never been able to voice out to her. Nithya's eyes shimmered with unshed tears, reflecting the pain and the love that had never truly faded she held for him.

Time seemed to stand still as they sat there, communicating through their eyes. The air between them was thick with unresolved emotions.

Nischay wanted to reach out, to bridge the gap that years and misunderstandings had created but he remained frozen, the weight of the past holding him back.

Nithya could feel her resolve crumbling. The intensity of Nischay's gaze was too much to bear.

It was as if all the emotions she had bottled up were threatening her to spill over. She could see the regret in his eyes, the same regret that mirrored her own. But the wounds were still fresh and the pain too deep.

Unable to handle the overwhelming surge of emotions any longer, Nithya stood up abruptly.

She grabbed her bag and hurried towards the door, tears welling up in her eyes. As she pushed the door open, a single tear escaped, trailing down her cheek.

She glanced back one last time, meeting Nischay's gaze once more. His eyes were filled with a silent plea but she turned away, the pain too much to bear.

Nischay watched her leave, his heart aching with a profound sense of loss. He wanted to call out to her, to run after her but his feet remained rooted to the spot.

He could only watch as she disappeared into the bustling city, leaving him alone with the memories and the regrets that would forever haunt him.

The café returned to its usual rhythm but for Nischay, the world had shifted. He sat there, staring at the empty seat where Nithya had been, the taste of his coffee now tasting unexpectedly bitter.

The chance encounter had reopened old wounds and as he left the café, he could not shake the feeling that their story was far from over even if the ending remained uncertain.

The end.
