"Um... so far it's an A in French and a B- in econ." The young girl said as she takes small nervous pauses to eat the little food she had on the plate In front of her. She couldn't have been older than 14 years old.

"Oh." The man in front of her nodded, "What about chemistry?" He said as he cut the steak on his plate.

The girl kept an eye on his expression, tone of voice, body language and the way he cut his food. She had stiffen when the man asked that question.

"Umm.. I-I'm not sure." She lied, she has now stopped eating and was playing with a piece of bread. "Midterms are in a few days so it could go up."

The man paused and looked up at her. "What's it now?"

The girl stiffened even more and avoided looking directly at him. "The grade?"

"Yeah" the man scoffed lightly.

"Um." The girl shook her head as she looked down anxiously, she seemed afraid. "I'm not sure."

"Tsk. You just said it could go up." He stated.

The girl ran her hand through her hair. "Ah... I meant generally."

The man paused as he looked at the young girl. The he started cutting his steak again, but this time more aggressive, but still kept a sharp smile.

"You wouldn't be lying to me, would you Astrid?"

The girl looked at him now but with her head down and her mouth slightly open and she shook her head, "...no" her voice was quieter but still loud enough for the man to hear her.

"Then tell me your grade." The man shrugged like he didn't care about what they were talking about. Like he was easy going, laid back.

"I just told you,th-that  I do- I don't know." She stumbled over her words and looked down again, playing with the bread.

"You wanna take this conversation downstairs?"

The girls eyes widened slightly as she cautiously shook her head. The man was getting mad and she knew that.

"No?" He nodded encouragingly but the girl was alarmed and on guard. "Then tell me the grade, Astrid." He stopped eating again.

The girl looked at him for a second before looking down at the table. She had shifted in her seat. He had moved her lower body to the side of the chair so that if she had to she could flee.

"... Dad the semester only half over-"

"..Astrid..."

"-there's plenty of time to-"

"-Astrid!" The man yelled

The girl paused her panicked rant and gulped. "It-It's a D" She gripped her hand tightly making the white and looked at him cautiously while having her head down, as to not anger her father more.
