A tennis ball bounces off the back of my head.

"Menno!" I swirl around, knowing it's him before I can spot him in the crowd. Between the motorhomes of McLaren and Red Bull, the little dipshit saunters over to me with a grin.

"Bad reflexes" he observes with a disappointing frown.

"There was nothing to reflect off" I mutter annoyed, continuing down the pit lane.

The F1 pitlane. I still can't believe I'm here. Not as a fan, but as a scientist. My younger self would be doing back flips if she could see me right now.

"Where are you headed?" Menno falls into step beside me. Menno and I know each other from home. We did gymnastics together and both made it into our dream jobs. He does the marketing for the McLaren merchandize. He is pretty good at it too, sales have gone up with 20% since he joined the team.

"The training hall, Michael asked me to bring over a few elastic bands." Michael is the personal trainer of Daniel Ricciardo, a driver for Scuderia Alpha Tauri. Since I started my internship at the Motorsports Performance Lab in Michigan United States, I have been flying all over the globe to assist in the medical data collection of professional race drivers. My first assignment was NASCAR and drivers' response to a new cooling vest, then IndyCar and the effects of electrolytes on race performance and dehydration; and now Formula 1, testing the effects of anti-g straining maneuvers during cornering and braking on the abdominal viscera and brain perfusion. It's only my first day on the track, but I'm loving it already.

"So, listen up, tonight we're going out. There is a super cool club near our hotel. It's called toy room." Menno wiggles his eyebrows. I puke a little in my mouth. "Come on, it will be fun! The setlist is pretty good and exactly your vibe!" Menno and I bonded over our shared music taste, so when he tells me the club's playlist is right up my alley, how can I possibly say no?

"Who else is joining?" I wonder curious.

"Driver? Mechanic? Or is it maybe a simple kitchen boy who caught your eye?" I elbow him in his ribs.

"Can't I just be curious?"

"No"

I sigh. "There is a cute doctor in the medical team."

"Now we're talking. Give me his name and I'll find out." I narrow my eyes suspiciously.

"Dylan"

Menno sighs theatrically. "Does Dylan have a last name?"

"Probably" I shrug, "but I don't know it."

Menno looks surprised. "You didn't look him up?"

"How do I look him up without a last name" I grumble annoyed. I had tried to look him up, but as I just started working today, I hadn't picked up on his friend group yet. So that means nobody to direct me to his socials.

A whole lot of joint cracking is happening next to me. "That's okay, I like a challenge."

"Please don't make me regret telling you" I whimper. Menno is a sweetheart, but the guy has a sixth sense for trouble.

"Trust me." Menno winks before heading in the direction of the media boxes.
