Lando parks in the underground parking lot of a 102 stories high skyscraper. The party is at the roof of the hotel, only accessible by a special-invitation-only, membership card. I watch as the numbers go up inside the elevator.

"So, is there a special person I need to guard you from?"

The smirk on his face tells me there are plenty. Why me? The question has been ghosting my brain the whole day. Lando has plenty of friends and friends with benefits that could distract him from annoying girls and guys that want his attention. Why me?

The elevator doors open and spit us out onto a fairytale like location you only read about in books. The setting sun colors the sky in soft hues of pink and purple. The building is so high up in the sky that the clouds block it's view from the ground. The place is lit by small candles and fairy lights. The decorations are a mesmerizing blend of nature and old money. If that makes any sense. I'm awed by the place, taking a minute to take it all in.

"Lando!" a blond girl yells to my right. The girl bulldozers over to us, not seeing me as her gaze zooms in on Lando. Before she can trample me, I dodge the desperation and head straight towards the bar and order myself a vodka Redbull.

"Thanks for the save" Lando whispers in my ear a few minutes later. I smirk at the curly head that's rocking a mesmerizing frown.

"We all know Redbull comes first". Two can play this game.

I grin when I see his mouth twitch. Lando orders a monster energy drink. "What's your favorite drink in winter?" I ask trying to fill the silence. The facial he gives me, tells me that my question took him by surprise again.

"Chocolate milk. Yours?"

"Glühwein."

"Have you tried them in Germany at a winters market?"

I nod my head and tell him that's where I study. The intern is only for 4 months. We talk some more about our jobs. I don't know how we ended up at hobbies but here we are 2 hours later having a discussion on what is the most difficult sport to practice.

"It's obviously F1" Lando explains. "We have to perform under such high pressures and one mistake can cost us our lives."

"It's probably the most dangerous sport, but in terms of difficulty, gymnastics truly beats F1. The skills required to be good are insane and nowhere near what is needed to drive a car."

"Excuse me?" a soft voice interrupts the little bubble we were in. I look up at the blond girl with glittering eyes. "Can I have a picture with you?"

I smile at the girl and want to move out of the way. Lando grabs my hand, pulling me back onto the couch we claimed some time ago. "I'm here with my friend and don't take pictures today."

The girls face falls and nods before hurrying off somewhere.

"You get that everywhere you go?" I ask curiously.

Lando sighs. "Yeah. I feel bad for turning them down, but I sometimes wish they could see my life from my point of view."

I think about it for a while. It must be weird to go through life as a normal boy, only for one day, that to disappear. "What's the hardest part?" I ask, not sure if he'll answer me as truthfully as I did in the car.

"The judging and constant recording."

"Do the negative comments get to you?"

Lando ponders over my question. "Not always. I have bad nights where they impact me a bit more than they should, but in general I think I deal with the haters pretty well. It helps that I see it as a pathetic way to spend your days."

"Glad to hear that" I say in all honesty.

The rest of the night we spent chatting about the upcoming race and plans we have for the city. After a while, his friends join us in the lounge area. I think they all are super nice. Max Fewtrell flew in from the UK to visit Lando. Keegan, a business partner but also good friend of Lando joined him. Later, Max and Kelly joined us, and I had a good night. The people weren't flocking us as much as Lando had made me belief, but maybe that's because of the amount of security around our group.

I quickly check my phone to see if I have any pressing messages. The usual: Menno and Ella are going wild in the group chat; Ella in private asking if it was okay to give my number to Dylan. Dylan wondering about my plans for Saturday night. So much for asking my okay. And him. I feel the blood drain from my face at his name.

I quickly open the message.
