We fell to the floor, crying as hard as we possibly could.

After all, our lives depended on this very moment, didn't they?

"RAYYYYYYYYY." Emma and I yelled, kicked and coughed. Hugging each other so tightly and so fearfully.

I glimpsed at the sight before us. The dining room was fully immersed in the smoke. I could barely see a thing.

As if on queue, Isabella burst in. Fear and confusion rested in her eyes as she tried to figure out what on Earth was going on.

Emma and I continued our act. "RAY!! RAY GET OUT!!"

The older woman ran towards us, gripping our shoulders. "GIRLS!"

"MAMA!! RAY'S IN THE FIRE." Emma sobbed. I cried as hard as I could to keep up the act.

Isabella thought hard for a moment. "I'll be right back!"

We immediately heard her instruct Gilda to evacuate all the kids.

The escape was officially taking place.

Isabella came in the burning room again. But this time, with a fire extinguisher.

Which barely worked when she used it, by the way.

Thank Don for clogging it.

As she realised this sudden failure, Ems and I made our way out. We dashed to the nearest bathroom, where our uniform was.

Her and I changed clothes as quickly as we could. I grabbed a knife we stored there on purpose, using it to cut off our left ears (which is where our trackers were). Those could stay there.

"Emma, (Y/N), you need to leave also-" With my improved hearing, I heard Isabella say this and notice that the two of us were already gone.

"Isabella noticed we're gone. Emma, we need to run."

"Mhm!"

Two fourteen year old girls, running away from the burning house they were raised in.

We didn't dare look back.

I could hear some of the little kids from afar, celebrating their evacuation from the fire.

The forest was pitch black dark. Emma and I didn't bring a lantern. But my improved sight allowed me to navigate quicker.

I saw a big body of kids waiting for us.

"(Y/N)! Emma!" Happy and relieved voices called.

"We made it!" Ems and I panted.

"Thanks for waiting everyone!" Smiled Emma.

"Did you lot break the tracking devices?" I asked the kids.
