Frowning, Roger glanced over at his partner Thomas, and said, "Did you hear that?" Nodding, Thomas turned around from the three monitors that he had been studying and said, "Yeah, and Miss Moretti will not be happy when she learns what Mr. Daniels is planning to do." Running an agitated hand through his hair, Roger stood and glanced over at the brownstone where his current target was currently making love to the woman that he was planning to marry.

Fuck.

Downing the rest of his ginger ale, Roger tossed the now empty can into the trash and turned to Thomas and said, "When Miss Moretti hears about what Mr. Daniels is planning, I believe that she may do something rash." Nodding his head, Thomas popped a fry into his mouth as he said, "Well, based on what you've told me about her so far, I'm inclined to believe you. After all, you did say that she got rid of the last woman that Mr. Daniels had shown an interest in, right?" Glancing out of the window, at the brownstone across the street, Roger said, "Yeah, she did. I don't know what she said, or did to that young woman, but within three days of me telling her that Mr. Daniels had gone on a trip with her and had seemed to be getting pretty serious with her, she was no longer in the picture." Glancing over at Thomas he said, "She left a job that she'd worked at for five years, packed up her house practically overnight, and moved to some unknown cattle town in North Dakota." Sitting back down at his desk, Roger said, "Now granted, the young woman did have a past with a piece of shit that had been stalking and abusing her, so her quick and sudden departure could have something to do with him, but my gut is telling me that Miss Moretti had something to do with her leaving so abruptly."

Thomas let out a long whistle as he said, "Miss Moretti sounds unhinged Roger. And the fact that she's had you watching this guy for the past three and a half years is creepy. Hell man, you've worked on nothing but this case since you met her, and while I know that what we do for our clients sometimes rides the edge between legal and illegal.... if at any point I think that this woman is dangerous, I'm out." Turning to lock eyes with Roger, Thomas said, "And I'd advise you to do the same, because no job is worth going to jail or losing your soul over."

A couple of hours later, and after the two lovers across the street, had finally drifted off to sleep, Roger removed his headphones, and stretched out on the sofa bed that he'd set up in his office. He decided to catch a few hours of sleep before resuming his watch. Thomas was already fast asleep in the other room, so Roger drifted off to sleep himself, worry laying heavy on his mind for the young couple that lay asleep in the brownstone, totally oblivious to the possible danger that was heading their way.
