Rough Night

In the morning, Zoya began to stir as the sun rose and its beams streamed through the window. She noticed her hand resting over Monet's hand, as Monet's arm was wrapped around her waist and her nose nuzzling the back of Zoya's neck. Not wanting to wake her, Zoya remained perfectly still, allowing Monet to sleep peacefully while holding her.

As the sun continued to rise, its warmth gradually awakened Monet. She opened her eyes and realized the intimate position she was in, with her nose nuzzling the back of Zoya's neck and her arms and legs entwined around her. Startled, Monet carefully slid off Zoya, hoping she was still asleep. Once she was back on her side, Zoya turned to face her, their eyes meeting in the soft morning light.

"I didn't mean to do that," Monet whispered, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

"It's okay," Zoya whispered back with a playful smile. "I'd rather wake up like this than suffer from one of your rage blackouts."

Monet couldn't help but chuckle softly, the tension between them easing as they shared a light moment in the early morning light. However, as she looked at Zoya, Monet felt something unfamiliar, a mix of emotions she couldn't quite decipher. Panic set in, and she quickly got up, her voice slightly trembling. "I... I just remembered I need to help my parents with preparation for the tennis tournament," she said abruptly, almost tripping over herself as she hurried into her walk-in closet to grab clothes.

Zoya sat up, looking confused. "Umm, okay? But I thought we were going to practice for the tournament today?" she called out, her brow furrowing in concern.

Monet glanced over her shoulder, trying to keep her voice steady. "You know, I thought about it. Even if we practice, we're still going to lose. It's not a friendly game, Zoya. These people are competitive. Plus, I forgot I already made a commitment with my parents to help," she said, hurriedly grabbing her clothes from the closet. "You should go... if you want to practice on your own, you can, but it's not really worth it."

Zoya stood up, a look of uncertainty crossing her face. "Are you sure?" she questioned, sensing something off. She knew how competitive Monet usually was, and this sudden change of heart seemed unusual.

"Yes, just go, and I'll see you tomorrow?" Monet said softly, handing Zoya her clothes and guiding her towards the bedroom door. With a gentle nudge, she ushered Zoya out and spotted her sister Nicole in the hallway. Without hesitation, she leaned in and quickly kissed Zoya's lips.

"Thanks for the great sex. I'll text you later," Monet remarked with a playful tone, flashing a quick smile before closing the bedroom door behind her.

"Um, you're welcome?" Zoya responded uncertainly from the other side of the closed door. She glanced awkwardly at Nicole and waved before hurrying out of the house.

Monet stood leaning against the door, a heavy sigh escaping her lips as she felt a wave of relief wash over her. Thoughts raced through her mind, and she questioned the reasons behind her recent actions and the unfamiliar emotions stirring within her.

As she reflected on the past few weeks, Monet realized she had been in a constant bad mood since school ended. Her frustration began when her mother forbade her from going to Europe with Luna. Since then, her recent agreement with Zoya has consumed her, as she has focused all her energy on trying to win Layla back. This left her with little time to relax and enjoy the benefits of Martha's Vineyard.

Determined to change that, for the rest of the day Monet immersed herself fully in the spa treatments, allowing the stress to melt away. She also enjoyed the excitement of shopping, fully appreciating the moment. While she habitually checked Layla's social media, she was unable to resist checking Zoya's as well, even though she had avoided talking to Zoya all day.
