Chapter 7 | Long Gone

CC's POV:

Do I want to be here?

Not a hundred percent, no.

The thoughts of a dead body still haunt me every once in a while.

But it was nice to be actually smiling for once.

We were all piled into Loxley's dad's van that somehow fit the six of us and our luggage, and everyone except me and Cairo were singing California Girls at the top of their lungs.

I let out a laugh as Caleb tries to sing an octave higher, but ends up failing and coughing.

Loxley is driving while Tori is sitting beside them, Me and Cairo are in the middle, and Caleb and Ally are in the backseats.

We packed up in the morning and got to driving to the campsite immediately.

I may not be in the best state mentally, but I can't say I'm not excited for this small trip. Especially swimming at the lake.

After singing and doing our own activities, Tori drawing, Caleb and Ally conversating, and Cairo writing in her small notebook, we soon arrive at the campsite.

As Loxley checks in, I take in the big forest. The entire place is filled with trees, yet you can still see some of the entertainment spots like the lake, the archery field and I'm sure there's a large field for playing sports.

"Damn the lake is big." Tori says with a laugh. "Who's going to do Archery with meee?" Ally asks.

I let out a sigh, watching everyone excited. The moment Loxley gets our ticket to our campsite, everybody cheers, even Cairo did a little bit, which made me relieved slightly to see that Cairo was turning up at least a little.

We arrive at our campsite, each friend spilling out one by one.

"My legs are so stiff holy shit." Loxley says, stretching them out as Caleb runs to explore the camp.

It took a long time to actually gather everyone to help set up the tent that Tori brought. since Tori has more then a few siblings she had the biggest tent out of all of us.

half of us set up our blankets and sleeping bags into the tent, while the other half when to set up the canopy on top of table the place came with.

And then it was off to activities.

"Come on CC!" Loxley yells. "Hold on my strap is stuckk!" I groan, trying my best to get my swimsuit strap over my shoulder.

"Finally!" I exclaim, adjusting my swimsuit before rushing out the change room.

"About time." Loxley teases, fixing their hair into a ponytail. They was wearing a navy blue swimsuit, one I had seen them wear before before. I walk with Loxley to the lake as I spot Ally wearing a forest green swimsuit with different shades of green swirls here and there. Tori was in a dark purple two piece swimsuit, Caleb already by the dock wearing a pair of swim shorts, and my eyes soon land on Cairo.

She had her hair tucked behind her ears, her dark hair was illuminated by the sun, and now it looked like it was a slightly lighter, comforting brown. She was wearing a classic black one-piece swimsuit that fit perfectly on her body, and sat at the edge of the dock, her feet dipped into the lake as Caleb playfully splashed her.

I had to admit, she actually looks pretty good.

"Enjoying the view?" I hear Loxley say right by my ear, making me flinch.
