The rain poured down in relentless sheets, drumming a mournful melody against the windowpane. She sat by the window, her fingers tracing the cold glass, her heart as numb as the icy rain. The past had left deep scars, ones that seemed too jagged to ever heal.
Her father’s voice echoed in her mind, a mixture of regret and determination. “It’s for the best, Aarohi. This marriage will secure your future.”
Future. The word felt hollow. What future could there be when her past haunted every waking moment? She glanced at the heavy suitcase by the door, a silent testament to the life she was leaving behind.
The stories of her soon-to-be husband whispered through the town like ghostly tales. A beast, they called him. A man who hid behind a wall of gruffness and isolation. No one truly knew him, and perhaps, no one wanted to. The few who had glimpsed beyond the exterior spoke of a broken soul, hiding wounds deeper than the ocean.
