The car ride was suffocatingly silent. I glanced at the vampire next to me, a mix of fear and curiosity swirling inside. Up front, a bald man in a black suit stared straight ahead, his expression unreadable.

"Are you feeling alright?" the vampire beside me asked, breaking the silence with a voice smooth as silk.

"I'm not sure," I admitted, my voice shaky. "I'm confused and have so many mixed feelings. I don’t even know who you are."

He nodded, his hazel eyes sparkling with an enigmatic charm. "My name is Louis. I understand this is overwhelming, Rose, but you must grasp the gravity of the situation. Celeste is dangerous. She’s one of the few outcasted vampires, defying our laws. Normally, such defiance warrants death, but Celeste has evaded justice through the protection of a witch. We’ve been hunting this witch for years, yet she remains elusive."

I frowned, trying to absorb his words. "If you can't drink human blood, then where do you get blood from?"

"We procure it from animals and slaughterhouses," he explained, his tone both refined and serious. "It’s far from ideal, but it’s a necessity to adhere to our laws. Consuming human blood not only violates our laws but also awakens a darker part of us, leading us down a path to monstrosity."

My mind raced with questions. "What exactly is a blood bond and how does it work?"

He sighed, aware of the complexity. "A blood bond ties the vampire to a human. The vampire can only draw blood from that person unless they die. Drinking from another would result in bitterness and unsatisfied lust. The bond is formed when a vampire drinks from a human, often leading to the human's death.

"Celeste’s attachment to you is... unusual. She’s broken our laws but not in the typical manner of a rogue vampire. In your case, it’s fortunate. If you remain separated from her long enough, she will starve."

His words sent a chill down my spine, silencing me. I stared out the window, my mind a whirl of thoughts and fears.

Louis regarded me with a thoughtful smile. "Celeste has always been... different. Rebellious, passionate. Perhaps she saw something in you that reflected herself, or perhaps she was merely lonely."

I bit my lip, struggling to make sense of everything.

Time passed in tense silence before I finally asked, "Where are we going?"

He glanced at me, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "You ask many questions. We’re heading to our hometown. There, you will be safe from Celeste."

I nodded, accepting his vague answer, too tired and scared to push for more details.

I stared out the window, the scenery blurring past. The weight of everything that had happened pressed down on me, and I could only hope that wherever we were going, it would be safe. For now, I had to trust these strangers with my life.
