Tyler's POV:
After the concert
„Damn Josh. That was electrifying." I say after an emotional night in Australia. „Yeah it really was, wasn't it? Especially „Tear in my heart" , my god. Her Voice was heavenly. Weren't you and Jenna looking for an adult kid, who loves to sing?" Josh asks me, in a careful tone, because he knows how much it bothers both my wife and me, that we can't get biological children. „Hm... she said that she was mute because of her parents... and she looked like she was alone at the concert... maybe the girl was her Sister... I will call my wife and tell her about today and ask her to call the orphanage that's close to here." I respond to him.
Emy's PoV:
It's the day after the concert and I am back in High School, as soon as I walk in I see my „friends" begin to mock our resident bullying victim, Jacque. She's a sweet girl, with red hair, green eyes and a visual disability so they see it as fair, to trip her up, push her from the side where she doesn't see well or just say absolutely horrible things to her.
When I see her being pushed around, I remember last night and how much it felt good to help Steph get her confidence back... even if it might have been only a little bit. So I storm over and push my friends off „Cut it out! She didn't even do anything to you!" I scream at them, while shielding Jacque. After a few mean remarks and verbal jabs they leave, while shaking their heads. „Are you alright Jac?" I ask the green eyed girl, without realizing that I gave her a nickname, she responded while a blush begins to form „I am alright... I am sorry if I bothered you in anyway." I just shook my head at this outrageous comment and asked her if she wants a hug. After she nodded I very gently hugged her to me, and I felt my heart skip a beat.
Tyler's PoV:
It's now a week after the concert, and after having multiple talks with my wife, we finally want to call today. „Are you really really sure, that this is a good idea hun? You barely know her." said my wife „Yeah I know it's risky, but I just felt this connection with her, almost as soon as I saw her... and she must have atleast trusted me enough to share that information with me, a complete stranger." I respond. „But you're not a complete stranger to her... you and Josh are literally her reason for staying alive until now, for having any self esteem and confidence left. It probably would mean everything to her, if you adopted her." Jenna said finally. „Ok, you got the number? We got all the tests done by professionals who are specialists in these kinds of tests, we are a perfect fit for an adoption, we got identification features like haircolor, eye color, any specific ticks?" I check for the last time, before making the call that could change our entire life... and so close to an album release. I hope everything works out well.
We finally type in the number of the Orphanage. Sydney's Lost Lights Orphanage.
„Hello, this is Sydney's Lost Lights Orphanage. Miss Thorne speaking" „Yes, hello Miss Thorne. It's Tyler and Jenna Joseph. We have a question about a child of yours... or rather if a child my husband recently met is a child of yours." I reply to the kind sounding lady.
„Of course. Can you describe the child?" she asked me „Of course. She was a, I would say 14/15 year old girl, she had blond hair, ocean blue eyes. Uhm, she was wearing a hoodie from the band „Twenty Øne Piløts"." I give her all the information I thought of in the moment „Ok, I think I know who she is, and yes she's a child of mine, but one question Mr. Joseph. Did the girl use a pen and paper?" she asked suddenly and with sadness in her voice „What do you mean? Are you asking us if she wrote?" I ask confused. „Oh no. I should have been clearer: Did the girl used a Pen and Paper instead of talking? Because the girl you are asking about is named Steph and is selectively mute, which got her bullied and discriminated against by her fellow peers in here and in the school... while I try to help her when it's happening here, I can't do anything about it happening to her at school." she says sadly, and I can feel Jenna start to cry softly next to me.
„Ok, thank you Miss Thorne. Now that we cleared it up, I can come to the real reason for this call. We wish to adopt Steph." I dropped the news. Now I hope that it will be ending in a good way. „Are you serious about it? I am just asking because I can hear that you're not from here, based on how you talk and your accent. I would guess that you're American?" She asked a valid question „Yeah, we are living in the US, in Columbus, Ohio to be precise. And yes, we both are serious about adopting Steph. I even made a plan to get her, I would send my wife over to you and get her and bring her home... I would love to be there too, but I need to record some music and go over tour plans etc. in the next few weeks and don't have any time for a trip like that, sadly." I respond, but I probably shouldn't have said that I need to record music, because Miss Thorne's tone changed drastically
„Oh... you are a musician. So what's it gonna be: Adopt Steph to get some good publicity and barely see her, because you're always on tour? I know your type of parents..." she snaps out, clearly having made bad experiences. „No! I promise that I had no plans doing anything like that. I actually planned on taking her with me on tour, and that we both would be an integral part in her life. We both really wanted kids, but we can't have any biological ones, so we turned our sights on adoption, and checked out the US Orphanages but were disappointed by their lack of support for their children... so we turned our attention to you, after I met Steph at a concert with my band, last week. She seemed pretty shy but also passionate about singing. I instantly felt a connection with her when I saw her and when I heard her singing... my god, it's magical." I end my little rant and could hear Miss Thorne sniffing at the other side „Ok, I will allow you to adopt her. Could you just do or send me the results of the wellfare tests?" „Sure my wife Jenna, who you may have heard softly crying in the background, will send you the results right away. Please don't tell Steph, who is adopting her, ok?" and after a few minor details, we end the call. Jenna is a sobbing and crying mess next to me „We are gonna be parents/have a daughter" repeated by her over and over, and I am close to tears as well.
I just hope everything goes smoothly.
Steph's POV:
It's been a little bit over 3 weeks since the concert where I met Emy and sang with Tyler Fucking Joseph. And if I should describe the time since in one word: Hell. Ever since the other kids in the Orphanage and at school found out that I was singing with Tyler they would either criticize my voice or say that he only did it out of pity. The only thing that made the weeks bearable was the fact that I found out that Emy and I went to the same school. She saw me a few days after the concert, being bullied by some assholes from my class and decided to threaten them. After she successfully defended me, she introduced me to her „friend" Jacque. Even if I am just 15 I can still tell when there's an attraction between people, and those two... oh boy. They are in love... they would be cute tbh.
When I finally got home from school I got called into Miss Thorne's office, which made me just groan out loud. When I entered the room I immediately wrote: „Whatever is spread about me, I didn't do it." I looked up into the bewildered face of Miss Thorne and a smirking face of a woman with blonde hair and blue-green eyes, who seemed vaguely familiar. „That's not why I called you here Steph. I actually want to tell you good news... You are getting adopted. By the lovely woman next to me and her husband." Miss Thorne said and as I looked at the woman I could see her bright and genuine smile „Hi Sweetheart. I am Jenna, and I and my husband want to adopt you. We live in the US... so you would need to leave your friends behind... but I am sure you can meet them often." Jenna says kindly and I can tell that she doesn't lie or try to deceive me.
So I just nod my head and write: „Yes. I would like to be adopted by you Jenna."
