Chapter Seven: Confrontation
Minjeong barely slept that night. Her mind kept replaying the videos and reading the texts, each image and word a stab to her heart. She knew she had to confront Seokjin, but the thought of facing him filled her with dread.
The next morning, Minjeong went through her routine mechanically. She met Jimin for breakfast but couldn't bring herself to reveal the truth yet. Jimin noticed her distraction but didn't press her, sensing that Minjeong needed space.
As the day wore on, Minjeong's anxiety grew. She decided to meet Seokjin at the same café where they had first talked about their relationship. It was supposed to be a place of comfort and familiarity, but today it felt like the setting for a final showdown.
When she arrived, Seokjin was already there, smiling as he waved her over. She steeled herself, forcing a calm demeanor as she took a seat across from him.
"Hey, you seem off today," Seokjin said, reaching for her hand. "What's wrong?"
Minjeong pulled her hand back, her voice steady but cold. "We need to talk, Seokjin. I found out about Sooyeon."
His smile faltered, and a look of panic crossed his face. "Minjeong, I can explain-"
"Explain what?" she interrupted, pulling out the folder Sooyeon had given her. "This? The texts? The photos? The video?"
Seokjin's face turned pale. He glanced around the café, lowering his voice. "Please, can we talk about this somewhere private?"
"No," Minjeong said firmly. "We're talking about it here. I want to know why you lied to me. Why you pretended to be someone you're not. I trusted you, Seokjin."
He ran a hand through his hair, visibly struggling for words. "I didn't mean for this to happen. When I met Sooyeon, I was confused. Things were complicated between us. I didn't know how to tell you."
"So you thought cheating was the better option?" Minjeong's voice rose, drawing the attention of nearby patrons. She didn't care. "You made me believe that you were there for me, that we were a team. And all the while, you were with her."
"Minjeong, I-" Seokjin began, but she cut him off again.
"Do you know what this has done to me?" she demanded, her eyes filling with tears. "I've spent my whole life trying to be perfect, to live up to everyone's expectations. You were supposed to be my escape from all of that. But you've just added to the lies."
Seokjin's expression softened, and he reached across the table again, but Minjeong recoiled. "I'm so sorry," he whispered. "I know I've hurt you, and I hate myself for it. I wish I could take it all back."
Minjeong shook her head. "It's too late for that. You've shown me who you really are. I can't keep pretending everything is okay."
She stood up, her decision clear. "We're done, Seokjin. I don't want to see you or hear from you again. I need to figure out who I am without you, without all these lies."
Seokjin looked devastated, but he didn't argue. He knew he had lost her.
Minjeong walked out of the café, her heart heavy but her mind resolute. She had taken the first step toward breaking free from the façade that had controlled her life for so long.
Back at her dorm, she found Jimin waiting for her. The moment Jimin saw Minjeong's face, she knew something had happened.
"Minjeong, what's wrong?" Jimin asked, her concern palpable.
Minjeong collapsed into Jimin's arms, the tears she had held back finally flowing freely. "He's been cheating on me, Jimin. With Sooyeon. I have proof."
Jimin held her tightly, letting her cry. "I'm so sorry, Minjeong. You don't deserve this."
As Minjeong sobbed, she felt a strange sense of relief mixed with her pain. She had confronted the truth and taken control of her life. It was the beginning of a new chapter, one where she would learn to be true to herself.
With Jimin by her side, Minjeong knew she wasn't alone. She would face whatever came next with the strength and resilience that had always been within her, waiting to be unleashed.
