Chapter Six: Unraveling Secrets
Minjeong felt a strange sense of relief after her tearful confession to Seokjin. The burden of maintaining her perfect image had begun to lift, and she was hopeful that, with his support and Jimin's friendship, she could find a path to authenticity.
The next few days were a whirlwind of classes and tentative steps towards being more open. Minjeong found herself confiding in Jimin more frequently, and their bond deepened. Seokjin, true to his word, was there for her, providing comfort and understanding.
One evening, as Minjeong was studying in her dorm room, she received a text from an unknown number: "Meet me at the old library at midnight. You need to know the truth about Seokjin."
Her heart pounded as she read the message. She didn't recognize the number, but something told her she couldn't ignore it. She hesitated, torn between fear and curiosity.
At midnight, Minjeong slipped out of her dorm room and made her way to the old library, a dilapidated building on the edge of campus that was rarely used. The night was eerily quiet, and she felt a shiver run down her spine as she approached the entrance.
Inside, the library was dimly lit, the shelves covered in dust and cobwebs. She spotted a figure standing in the shadows, waiting for her. As she stepped closer, she recognized a girl from one of her classes-Sooyeon.
"Sooyeon? What are you doing here?" Minjeong asked, her voice echoing in the empty space.
Sooyeon stepped forward, her expression a mix of guilt and determination. "Minjeong, I needed to talk to you. It's about Seokjin."
Minjeong crossed her arms, trying to appear confident despite the fear gnawing at her. "What do you know about Seokjin?"
Sooyeon took a deep breath. "I'm the girl he's been seeing. I know this is going to hurt you, but you deserve to know the truth."
Minjeong felt her heart drop. "Why are you telling me this?"
"Because I can't keep lying to you," Sooyeon replied, her eyes filled with regret. "I have proof. Text messages, photos, even a video of us together. I didn't realize he was with you when we started seeing each other. When I found out, I tried to end it, but he kept coming back."
Minjeong's hands trembled as Sooyeon handed her a folder. Inside were printed screenshots of text messages between Seokjin and Sooyeon, pictures of them together at various locations, and a USB drive.
Tears welled up in Minjeong's eyes as she skimmed through the evidence. "I can't believe this. Why would he do this to me?"
"I don't know," Sooyeon said softly. "I'm so sorry, Minjeong. I wish I had known sooner. I never wanted to hurt you."
Minjeong's mind raced with a whirlwind of emotions-betrayal, anger, sadness. "Thank you for telling me," she managed to say, her voice breaking.
Sooyeon nodded, tears streaming down her face. "If you need anything, please let me know. I truly am sorry."
Minjeong left the library, the folder clutched tightly in her hand. Back in her dorm room, she plugged the USB drive into her laptop and watched the video. It was undeniable. The images of Seokjin with Sooyeon were seared into her mind, shattering the remnants of trust she had in him.
Her phone buzzed with a message from Seokjin: "Hey, I missed you tonight. Everything okay?"
Minjeong's hands trembled as she typed a reply: "We need to talk. Tomorrow."
As she lay down, the weight of the secret she'd uncovered pressed heavily on her. The perfect image she'd worked so hard to maintain was crumbling, and the one person she thought she could rely on had betrayed her in the worst way. Minjeong knew that tomorrow would bring more challenges, but for now, she could only hope that she had the strength to face them.
