Chapter Eleven: Confrontation at the Party
The following weekend, Minjeong and her friends decided to let loose and attend a lively party at one of the campus's most popular social spots. It was an opportunity to enjoy themselves, have fun, and temporarily escape the stress of their academic lives. They were excited for a night of music, dancing, and good company.
As they arrived at the venue, the vibrant energy of the party enveloped them. The music was loud, the lights were flashing, and the crowd was buzzing with excitement. Minjeong, Jimin, Sooyeon, and Mia quickly fell into the rhythm of the party, their earlier conversations replaced with laughter and dancing.
The night was going smoothly until Minjeong spotted a familiar face in the crowd-Seokjin. Her heart skipped a beat as she tried to ignore him, hoping he wouldn't notice her. But as if drawn by an invisible thread, Seokjin made his way through the crowd directly toward Minjeong.
"Minjeong," Seokjin called out with a smirk, his voice barely audible over the music. "It's been a while."
Minjeong stiffened, her initial instinct to avoid him battling with her desire to confront him. "What do you want, Seokjin?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
Seokjin's eyes roved over her, and he leaned in closer, his demeanor far too familiar. "I've missed you, Minjeong. We should talk. There's so much we need to clear up."
Minjeong felt a shiver run down her spine, and she took a step back, trying to create distance. "There's nothing to talk about. You've caused enough trouble already."
Seokjin's smile faltered for a moment, but he quickly recovered. "Come on, don't be like that. We can work things out. Just give me a chance."
Before Minjeong could respond, Jimin, Sooyeon, and Mia noticed the interaction and quickly moved to her side. Jimin's protective stance was evident as she stepped between Minjeong and Seokjin. "She said she doesn't want to talk to you, Seokjin. Leave her alone."
Seokjin's eyes narrowed as he looked at Jimin. "And who are you to tell me what to do?"
"I'm someone who won't let you harass her," Jimin shot back, her voice firm.
Sooyeon stepped in, adding her support. "Minjeong doesn't owe you anything, Seokjin. You've done enough damage already."
Seokjin's expression darkened, frustration evident on his face. "You don't understand. I'm just trying to fix things."
Mia, standing beside Sooyeon, added her voice to the confrontation. "You're not fixing anything. You're only making things worse. You need to leave."
The tension in the air was palpable, and Minjeong felt a mix of relief and anxiety as her friends stood by her. Seokjin, realizing that he was outnumbered and no longer welcome, glared at them before turning away. "Fine. If that's how it's going to be, I'll go."
As Seokjin disappeared into the crowd, Minjeong let out a shaky breath. She turned to her friends, gratitude and relief flooding her.
"Thank you," Minjeong said, her voice trembling. "I didn't know what to do."
Jimin placed a reassuring hand on Minjeong's shoulder. "You don't have to face this alone. We're all in this together."
Sooyeon nodded, her expression softening. "We've got your back. Always."
Mia gave a supportive smile. "Let's not let him ruin our night. We came here to have fun, remember?"
Minjeong managed a grateful smile, feeling the warmth of her friends' support. They resumed their evening, the earlier encounter with Seokjin fading into the background as they danced and laughed together. The party continued, but the true highlight of the night was the strength and solidarity she felt with her friends.
As they left the party, Minjeong realized that while the scars from her past were still present, the presence of her friends made her feel stronger and more resilient. With their support, she knew she could face any challenge that came her way. The night had been a testament to their bond, and Minjeong felt a renewed sense of hope and confidence as they walked away together.
