I open my eyes slowly. Not wanting to get up from my lovely cocoon of blankets and pillows. I groan loudly.
And just as I about to drift off to sleep again— my body— no, my bed starts to shake. What the hell ?
Is there an earthquake ?
I jump up and try to get out of my bed. The key word being 'try'. But me being me— I forget about my cocoon and end up falling on my ass. Very hard.
"Uff !" I exclaim as I bring my hand down to rub my back and try to clear the sleep from my eyes with the other. Just then the sound of laughter reaches my ears and I finally look around me to see that I have a lovely audience— My mom.
Great.
"Were you shaking the hell out of me ?" I grumble as I stand up.
"Yes, I have been calling you for over an hour. You sleep like the dead, honey." She says and laughs again.
"Nice, thanks, mom. Nice wake up call." I pat her shoulder and move towards my bed again.
"Nuh-uh. Absolutely not. Get your ass up and out of bed. Now." She keeps holding my waist, restricting my moment.
"Urgh ! Why ? Its Saturday. Let me sleep." I whine as I struggle to get out of her hold. "God ! Woman. How on earth are you so strong ?" I say breathlessly as I finally free myself from her and sit down on my bed.
Ah ! My warm bed.
"Well, this woman gave birth to you, honey. You have no idea how strong I am." She pretends to clean her shoulder off of some dust and smirks at me.
God. Why is she in such an upbeat mood today ?
"Fine. I'm up. Now go and let me be in peace. I don't like your upbeat mood. It is too early in the morning for this."
"Right. It's noon, honey. 12 o'clock." She says sarcastically and goes out of my room.
Finally.
I stand up and stretch.
As I turn around to make my bed I see the blankets and the pillows. Oh ! They are calling me.
I shake my head. "No, no, Beth. Absolutely not. Come on, girl. Wake up." I drag my fingers down my face, definitely scratching myself in the process.
"I'll do it later." I whisper as I look at the bed and the way it is literally seducing me to lie down on it again.
"No, you wont make me." I point at it and wag my finger—side to side.Enough with the shenanigans. I turn around and head toward my bathroom. A nice shower will surely wake me up.
"So what are you doing today ?" My mom asks me as I eat my food; spaghetti and meatballs, my favourite.
"Well I'll be at the diner the whole time. It's the weekend so it'll be jam packed for sure." I say as I wipe my face of any excess sauce.
"Right. Work. Honey, you're in school. It's your senior year. Don't you want to have some fun with your friends from school." She asks me.
I look at her incredulously.
"Mom, seriously. Friends. From school. Do you even know me ?" I say teasingly.
"Beth, I am serious. What about that boy ? The one you brought home ?"
"First of all, when you say it like that, it seems we are dating which we are not ? And second of all, he is not a friend. Just a companion. But mostly a student of mine."
