There was a correspondence between the Viscount Antony Bridgerton to the Abbot Placid Guillermic, from France. His exorcisms were well known in England.
He was nicknamed Tadig Kozh, which translates to 'Old dad'. He was going to be their only hope. He only hoped the miracles of his works were not deemed false.
He was expecting his brother Colin to be the one victim to this evil, but Miss Penelope Featherington. Who was no more than a child and in Anthony's eyes, family. He was scared. She had already been on the brink of death. This was their only hope.
Anthony never prided himself for being a god fearing man. But the night before his arrival, he clenched his father's bible tight and prayed for god to forgive him, because he was certain if this fell apart. The Featherington's certainly would not.
Anthony and Violet sat in their study away from prying eyes.
Violet held her stomach tight. She felt sick. This world had become very dark indeed. It was difficult separating herself from her youngest, she was still terrified and anxious.
"What are we to do when our Abbot arrives?"
"I think sending the family to Hastings house would be best. So Hastings can protect them. While I will stay here with Benedict"
"Dearest, you cannot do that. What of Colin"
"The further away Colin is, the better. I believe if the plan does not succeed, Colin may be the culprit. He cares for her too much and Pen..."
He took a small sigh, he swallowed sharply "Miss Penelope Featherington is no longer in control"
Violet nodded "Poor girl"
"Indeed. If there is any miracle to be had, the Abbott will be it, surely"
"I am scared. Are you sure you do not wish me to stay, my boy. Perhaps, I can talk sense into whatever it is.... "
"Mother I will not be able to help the Abbot, unless I know you and the rest of the family are safe"
"My boy" she stepped over and embraced him from the back. Her arm draped over him.
"Your father would be so proud of you" she kissed him on the cheek "I do not wish to lose either of you."
He held his mother's arm "I know. You will not"
He smirked a little "If it gets too dangerous, trust be Benedict will be able to talk our way out of it"
Violet rubbed a tear from her cheek and whispered "Best sure he does"
Violet left the room, leaving Anthony to his thoughts.
Although Benedict was making his way through the local brothel, tending to his other needs. His mind needed to quiet from the horrifically images his mind was conjuring.
As he stood up from a pleasing afternoon with the Calais twins he noticed a face flash up at the window. A grotesque face. Hollow eyes, and that black smile, blood trickling down the chin. He blinked and the image was gone.
He was lying to himself if he was to say he was not afraid. He was a fool not to be.
Miss Penelope Featherington. Pretty girl with her whole life ahead of her. He envied her relationship with his sister El. They were always on some sort of adventure, inseparable. Eloise and Colin were fascinated by the young Miss. Her sense of humour and sweet smile brightened the room. I suppose her clothing had not helped with her attempts of invisibility. She was charming. Sweet. Now, however. Her face was gruesome. Her eyes were stained with lack of sleep. Her smile had disappeared completely and the glow she always emitted had been replaced by sadness, fear and regret. I can only hope we get her back. If not for her family. Then for mine. Please god. Save her.
