he took her to a lake. the one that avalon and her family would take the fisher's and the conklin's to when they happened to visit them in new york.

conrad let avalon out of the car. it was a chilly summer evening. he took a blanket out of his trunk and wrapped it around avalon over her shoulders.

they went to sit down on two large rocks by the water, enjoying the beautiful blue sky and sounds of nature. moments like this made everything feel worth it. not only for avalon, but for conrad too. all the things they've had to go through had led them to this exact moment, and they were finally together.

she rested her head on his shoulder as they both stared off into the distance. he moved his hand over to hers and clasped them together.

"i can't believe we're here." she whispered with a giggle.

"i remembered coming here as kids. i figured it had been awhile since you've came here, and i know you love the views."

she chuckled to herself, "connie, that's not what i meant." she looked up at him with a grin.

"oh-" he laughed nervously. when she looked away, he had the biggest smile on his face. he couldn't take his eyes off of her. he was so enamored by this girl.

"i can't believe i'm here with you too." he told her.

she looked up at him and raised her head up. he leaned over to connect lips with her. his hand rested on her chin, holding it up.

avalon's heart was jumping for joy. she couldn't put into words how perfect this moment was.

the moment was almost too perfect for her to believe. she couldn't help herself. she couldn't help but think of the future and what it had in store her and conrad.

"what happens when you go off to stanford?" she blurted. she hated when her overthinking got in the way... which happened basically every day of her life.

he looked at her with what seemed to be concern. "we still have all summer together. what's the rush?"

"yeah... but it's hard not to wonder, how will this work?" she asked, trying not to tear up at the thought.

"avie..." he raised her chin to look up at him. "if you think you're getting rid of me that quick, you're mistaken."

she smiled at his reassurance. it was really all she needed.

the thoughts may still come and go, but conrad would always be there to soothe her mind. he was determined to make this work. he wasn't letting her slip away again. no way in hell.
