"If they don't understand, corner them in the janitor's closet."

"If your daughter hadn't been busy stalking a college guy, we would have been successful, boss!" One of my father's men complains. My father looks at me with a raised eyebrow, and I deny it with a shake of my head.
"I don't think it's Maia's fault," Jared, my father's second-in-command, says.
"Of course, you'd support her." The other man scoffs. I lean to the side of my chair, take my knife from the side of my thigh, and throw it at the man's shoulder. BINGO!
He yells out in pain. Everyone looks at me. "You were three minutes late on a mission that was the top priority of the month. You were leading the team. I was there as backup, not a member." I stand up and walk toward him. "After you messed up, I was the one who fixed your mess and wiped the entire place clean of everything that could jeopardize the mission." I pull the knife out of his shoulder and press his hand on the wound.
I place the knife on my father's desk and look at him. "I'm off to university. If your men interfere with what I do, you'll lose people, and it won't be me, Dad." I say and walk out.
I see my mother scolding my brother over something and walk toward them.
"What did he do now, Maa?" I hug her and kiss her cheek.
"As usual." She sighs and kisses my cheek.
"How was your mission?" she asks, putting an acai bowl in front of me.
"Thank you, Maa. The mission was doomed as soon as that idiot walked in with the delivery. He was tactless and has no skills other than his never-ending hunger for power." I grumble, and she chuckles.
"I got a text from Jared that Dad has a bloody knife on his table." Matteo speaks with a smirk. Maa looks at me in shock.
"He said that the mission got messed up because of Raze. Plus, he implied that Jared is a brown-noser. So, I had to." I shrug, and Maa laughs.
"Should I go alone, or are we going together?" I ask Matteo. He just nods, which means I should follow him.
Matteo and I are fraternal twins—the lethal kind. While people expect the usual stereotype from us because of how our Dad has portrayed us, we're actually the opposite. He's the calmer twin. He is the strategist, the ruler, the diplomat, the one who oozes charm until you fall into his trap. That's where I come in. I'm the crazier half. I'm the muscle, the sneaky, cunning hellion. Destruction is my forte, while his are strategic traps. He is the information, and I'm the execution. The deadly yin and yang.
"Here we are. Be careful, Maia," he says softly, and I nod.
Let's start living the normal side of our lives, shall we?
~~~
"See you later, Maia." A classmate walks out and I nod. Here in the university, I'm the quiet nerd who keeps to herself and is the sister of the star player of the swimming team. The classic cliché. I love it. Because it gives me time to do something I love.
Being a woman who is as territorial as men is difficult in today's world. Just look at my boyfriend. He's the perfect example of how oblivious people can be to others. I mean, he doesn't even know he's my boyfriend yet. Well, yeah.
I sigh, shaking my head slightly. Right now, I'm walking behind him in the hallways of our university. He's busy greeting everyone he knows, being his usual charming self. It's difficult to be on guard all the time.
"Maia!" I hear someone yell my name.
I turn around to see my brother. "What!" I snap at him.
"Dad wants us home after the next class. He is expecting guests," he tells me as we walk side by side. My eyes are still on my 'boyfriend.'
"Got it. I'll meet you by your car," I say, still watching Raze Xavier.
"Why are you so obsessed with Raze Xavier?" he asks curiously.
"You want me to bring your toy thing up?" I raise an eyebrow at him. He shakes his head and walks away.
I look at Raze and see a girl talking to him. She is way too close for comfort, twirling a strand of her hair and pushing herself closer to him. He takes a step back, politely smiles, and says, "Goodbye." She huffs and walks away.
I follow her, knowing that Raze is in a class with my brother and my big brother won't miss the details of what happens. As soon as she nears a janitor's closet, I stealthily push her inside and wrap my hand around her mouth. Her back is to me, so no one notices. "Hello, blondie. How stereotypical of you!" I whisper, feeling her shiver. "I'm going to remove my hand, and you won't scream. If you do, it will be the last thing you do. Understand?" She nods, and I remove my hand.
I look at her fearful posture. "What do you want with Raze?" I ask, and she stiffens.
"I like him," she whimpers.
I wrap my hand around her hair and pull it close to her ear. "Go near him again, and I'll shave your entire head. Flirt with him, and I'll rip your tongue out. Look at him again, and you get the point, right?" I threaten innocently. She nods.
"I won't go near him, I swear. Please leave me," she begs.
"You'll stay here for ten minutes, then you'll leave. If you leave before ten minutes, I'll know, and we'll meet again. Bye, blondie." I walk out before she can cry out in fear. Smirking, I head to the parking lot, knowing going to class is useless now.
I lean on the car and start to scroll through my social media. I hear someone walk towards me but I didn't care enough. "Maia, right?" I look up to see him. He's never given me a single glance because I wanted it that way, but now he's standing in front of me. His six-foot frame towers over me a little, his beautiful black hair and piercing black eyes commanding attention.
I stand straight and nod. "Matteo says to wait for 10 minutes. He's chasing." He looks confuse as he says the message which makes me chuckle. I nod. "How come we never crossed paths knowing that you're his sister?" Raze asks. I shrug. "Can you not speak?" He asks again and I smile. "I can." I say and his eyes widen. I have more of a deeper voice in compared to fellow females.
"I don't attend his matches or go to parties. I like my life quiet." I say while thinking as quiet as it can be with all the bloodshed. "Well, that sucks because I was going to invite you to the party that I am throwing this weekend." He says while scratching his head. Cute. "Can you make an exception?" he asks with a look I can't deny but I don't know what could Dad plan for me so I have to keep an opening. "Uhm I'll think about it." I smile. "That's better than a no," he says with a newfound enthusiasm.
How do I tell him that I've been to every party he's present in. Just not in the crowd.
"Anything else?" I ask as I put my phone in my back pocket. "Do we have any classes together?" he asks sheepishly. "Track running." I say and watch as his eyes widen. "You're in the women's track team?" He asks and I nod. "I've been since I have been a student here." I laugh at his shock. "I'm in men's." He speaks. I know, baby boy. I know.
"Will I see you in next practice on Tuesday?" he asks with hopeful eyes. I chuckle. His coach is my uncle but I won't tell him that. Not now. "Sure." I smile.
"Hey man! You waited with her? I thought you were getting late for your lunch with your dad?" Matteo says as soon as he reaches us. "Hey Maia, thanks for waiting." Matteo kisses my cheek and looks at Raze. Raze is caught off guard. Interesting. "Yeah, my dad texted me that he has pushed it for dinner. So, I waited with her." He lies straight to our faces. Matteo and I look at each other and then at him. We nod together.
"Now that you're standing together, I can see the similarities." Raze mutters. We say our goodbyes and get in the car.
"Why did he lie?" he asks me. "I have no fucking idea, Matt." He starts to drive to the mansion.
