"Be on guard because cruelty runs in the veins of monsters – man or woman."

"I'm here!" Matteo announces, walking towards me with a grin. "Good. Get in," I reply, sliding into the driver's seat and buckling up. The engine roars to life. "So, heading to Raze's party?" he asks, and I nod.
"Yep. We have to be home before 1 a.m. I've got a team meeting at 5. Bloody Saturday missions," I grumble, steering towards the Maniac Mansion.
"I still can't believe you kept this massive team and mansion a secret for two years," Matteo comments, his tone a mix of awe and teasing. "Shame on you, Nerd. You were supposed to be all-knowing." I nudge him playfully. "Drive quietly, hellion," he grumbles, and I laugh.
Keeping a team of ten under wraps, especially with an entire mansion dedicated to them, was no easy feat. I began assembling them at sixteen, and by eighteen, when I officially joined the family business, it was a miracle I managed to get everyone together.
I park the car outside the apartment complex and signal Matteo to get out. "Why are we here?" he asks, puzzled. I give him a pointed look, and he quickly quiets down. I mean why would I stop here, dumbhead.
We walk inside and enter the elevator. I press the button for penthouse and Matteo still keeps quiet. "You can speak now." I say and he takes a breath. "You said you started searching for them when we were sixteen. How the fuck did you have this kind of money, Maia?" He goes straight to the point. "Remember when Maa told us that Nonna left nothing for anyone?" I ask and he nods. "Well, her lawyer contacted me a year later. Exactly on the day she died. I went to meet him and he told me that Nonna left me a handsome sum of money and left a letter too." I confess and his eyes widen.
"Hellion, I keep secrets too but this is... Wow." He is speechless. Even I was. Imagine a 14-year-old looking at the letter and all the financial papers. I was fucked through and through but in a good way. "I wanted to tell you but something felt wrong. I knew you'd understand whenever I'll let you in on this secret." I smile at him as the elevator dings.
"Let's go, Nerd." I pull him out of the elevator because he was still digesting the fact.
I open the door with my fingerprint and open the door wider for Matteo to get in. He nods and walks in. "Yo! Hooligans! Look who's here to meet you!" I yell and then hear chaos all around and then we see people.
"Matteo, let's move to living room. We'll have much space for twelve people." He nods at my words. I have finally, after 21 years, rendered my twin speechless. It's a miracle.
"Well Luca and Valentina are out but the rest are here." Alessandro informs me and sits beside me.
"You wanna introduce yourselves or should I?" I ask the group and they just shrug. Lazy fuckers.
"Matteo, let's start with the introductions. That is Marco Bianchi, 24, my personal little internet expert. If somebody can give you a run for your skills, he'll be the one. He's our resident tech wizard. Whether you need software, hardware, or any tech-related solutions, Marco is the best in the business." Matteo nods at Marco, who offers a friendly smile.
"Next to Marco, with her striking pink hair, is Sofia Conti, 23. She's our disguise specialist. If you need to vanish or change your look, Sofia can make you unrecognizable. Believe me, there have been events where even I couldn't spot myself thanks to her skills." Sofia winks at Matteo, her cheeks coloring slightly from the praise.
"Then there's Isabella De Luca, 22. Don't let her tough exterior fool you—she's a master tactical planner and a formidable combat expert. If she's set on defeating you, you'll be lucky to walk away with just minor injuries. If she's feeling merciful, that is." Isabella gives a nod to Matteo, who smiles back appreciatively.
