"Raise hell if somebody touches him, with a touch of a sweet smile."
~~~
"We're home!" I yell. "In the kitchen." I hear him. Matteo and I walk toward the kitchen. Dad and Maa were cooking together. Maa was sitting on the counter while Dad was wearing an apron which says 'I'm a chef's kiss' and is cooking. "This looks comfy." Matteo comments as he walks towards Maa and hugs her. I stand beside Dad, he hands me a knife to chop vegetables.
"Use your skills." He ruffles my hair and I groan. I start to chop the vegetable and hear the conversations. "So, why are we cooking?" Matteo asks. "One of my oldest friends is going to visit me today with his family. His name is Darius Xavier." Dad informs us with a smile. "Did you say Xavier?" I ask while sharing a glace with Matteo and Dad nods. I have a strange feeling. Very strange.
"Well, go, make yourselves presentable, we'll finish cooking here." Maa says as she takes the knife from my hand. "Uhm do we have to dress up?" I ask and Dad chuckles. "Not the Hellion kind, my love. Simple dress would work." He smiles and I nod.
Matteo and I walk out of the kitchen. "Why do I feel like the postponed dinner is at our house?" I ask him. "It could be a different Xavier. Plus, Raze has been around for two years." He replies. "His dad wasn't." I say softly and he looks at me. We nod.
He walks into his room and I in mine. While I start choosing my dress, my brother is walking in my room with his laptop. I look at him expecting information. "It's a little tricky. He's well hidden." I sigh at the reply and walk in the bathroom to take a quick shower and change.
"I got it." I hear Matteo yell. "Listening." I yell. "Darius Xavier is a contractual hitman who has no allies. He kills anyone and everyone in exchange of money. The only person he never went against is our father. So, it's like his wife and then Dad." He reads. I walk out and sit beside him. "Get dressed. I'll see more." I order and he follows.
Matteo and I don't trust anyone beside Maa, Dad and Jared. We run background checks in multiple ways on our own and still stand on guard. Dad knows why, and therefore he never questions it. Being in a family that runs illegal businesses isn't safe. We aren't a part of mafia but we do have power. We respect them, they respect us. They have power running on generational fear and we have power running on respect that comes with fear of our actions.
While Dad is a strong leader, no man is unbeatable. Darius and Raze being family isn't what I fear – the ability of Darius to be sold is what I fear. Maybe he hasn't killed my dad but a couple more dollar bills and a person can fuck loyalty to oblivion.
"What did you find?" Matteo asks. I look at him—black oversized shirt, white trousers, and black Chelsea boots, complete with his classic knuckle rings and silver chain.
"Looking good, brother," I wink at him.
I hand him the laptop and start getting ready. "He's been clean for over five years, which means he didn't take any contracts or kill anyone. He wasn't on the radar until last month when his traces reappeared online. He was under protection, Matt. He's not working with businesses like us anymore. He's now with the mafia. I'm not sure which one, though." I explain everything I could find on him as I finish doing my makeup.
"There's no mention of who his kid is or if he even has a kid. His wife's name is there, but no other information. He's working with people who have big guns," Matteo says. I slip on my black YSL stilettos.
"You cleaned up well," he comments, and I smile.
"Thanks, nerd," I ruffle his hair.
I'm wearing a sleek black satin dress that ends just above my knees, with delicate golden straps. I accessorize the dress with a gold necklace that says "hellion" in cursive, matching golden hoop earrings, and my hair is styled in a high ponytail.
