I clinched my eyes closed as the dive pod shook violently. It wasn't like the simulations, it was harder, and I felt my stomach turning as we dove to the pre plotted course Captain Brando had marked during our brief rundown of what we would be tasked with.
While other Divers were deployed to disrupt manufacturing plants, take out communications and gathering samples. We were on a mission to secure a special piece of information to help better know what the bots were building and planning. This would help super earth in turn build weapons that could take on whatever it was that currently was destroying our ships in orbit.
The heat from entering the atmosphere was making me sweat slightly in my suit, more violent shaking and then a warning popped up on my pods screen.
BRACE FOR IMPACT
I remembered hearing stories from my brother that you didn't want to tense up, go with it and at the last second, kick up a bit. It would help with the shock that would go through your body.
Once the pod hit into the ground, I shook around a bit before being auto ejected upward. My eyes squinting as I adjusted to the planets lighting. I looked around and saw the others already out and calling down there support weapons. Looking to my arm I punched in my stratagem to call down mine.
"Cadet! Get over here." I heard a gruff voice below as I hustled over. The planet was mostly heavily wooded, with thick plants that if you weren't careful would slow you down or even cut up your suit.
"Yes Sir." I watched as the support pods landed for me and grabbed my sniper and jet pack. Thankfully I had enough credits saved to purchase the items I needed before this mission. Since it was more watching then fighting, i figured a plasma sniper would be the best option. It was good for both scouting and also ripping through the tough platting of the bots.
"Alright, we're here," Sargent Stewart began as he brought up a map of the area around us on his arm, " we need to head about 10 clicks east to this point here. The last contact we had with workers here said they had found something while trying to decode a captured brawler."
I was thankful that my helmet covered my whole head as my reaction to civilians being on this planet, let alone one's who were able to get a brawler had been able to get any information.
"And the civilians?" I asked, hoping for the best.
"KIA. We are just looking for the package and the upload station not too far from that base. Be on your toes though. This map doesn't show all known patrols and new stations the bots have built in the last 48 hrs. We should have a new update soon though."
We all stood there for a moment before Captain Brando spoke, "Well, enough times been wasted. Lets get to it." He turned on his heel and took off into the woods. I followed at the back keeping my eyes and ears peeled for anything. I could feel my heart beating so hard it was almost like it would rip out of my chest.
"Cadet, you need to slow your breathing. These bots have sensors that can scan farther then you think. They'll pick up on your labored breathing and then we'll all be screwed."
"Understood Sir...sorry.." I said as I tried to steady my breathing. A trick my brother had taught me was to imagine the happiest time in my life, focus on it, make it feel real, and it would help regain my hold on myself.

"Captain was it really a good idea to bring a rookie?" Stewart asked as he looked back at Amara and Sargent Vigil.
