Welcome Cadet

"Can you believe it?! We're gonna be real divers, this is so fucking cool!"

My mind had been wandering for what seemed hours while strapped into this bucket of bolts they called a pelican. So when another cadet had started excitedly yelling about becoming a Diver my attention turn to them. We all dawned the same uniform and helmet. Black with yellow stripes, but no capes. Only those who finished training could earn the right to wear the capes.

A right of passage for graduating basically. I heard the sounds of another cadet throwing up, turning slightly in my seat, I saw she had lifted her helmet just enough to puke on the floor.

"Hahahaha, how do you expect to make it through training with such a weak stomach Bianca!" Someone yelled over the loud clattering of the ship. Soon enough a voice echoed.

"CHASE! Up and ready cadet your dropping in for training!" I clinched my eyes closed tightly for a second, took a deep breath and once they released the lock on the seat stood with my eyes wide.

I can do this

I tried to remind myself as the ship shook for a moment before hovering. As the doors opened I was blasted with the bright sun and heat.

"JUMP!" A voice yelled, and without hesitation I leaped. My boots hit the ground, dust kicking up around me as I felt in my bones shake from the impact. I took in the surroundings, this was an old decommissioned site for terminoid testing. It was weird seeing the cages, stockpiles of suspicious containers, and old fencing around what looked like a slowly decaying bundle of buildings.

I rolled my shoulders, straightened my back and began my jog up the old dry dirt path towards the buildings. All the time thinking about how the test would go, we were never informed of what exactly we would be going through. Just basics of earning our right to be called a helldiver.

"God....what I wouldn't give for some water and freedom bar.." I mumbled to the sound of an angry, hungry stomach. I grabbed at my side as I shuffled my feet along the almost unrecognized path.

WELCOME TRAINING CADETS!

Trespassers will be feed to Terminoids

I stiffled a chuckle as I took in more of the elaborate training facility. As soon as I crossed over the barrier to enter the full facility a loud booming voice echoed from speakers all around me.

"Welcome glorious cadet to helldiver training!"

"This....is...fucking bullshit..." I panted as I hunched over at the medic machine. I had passed through all but two points of the training. So far I was making good time and I wasn't about to slow down. However, looking at the task before me was a bit of a nightmare situation.

COMBAT HEALING SIMULATION

The voice that had guided me through all steps rang out once again explaining the need for stems in heavy battle. And how it could be the difference between life and death. I let out an exhausted sigh as I forced myself to stand up. I stood in front of the machine and braced myself as I pushed the button.

A sharp and earth shattering feeling of pain shot through my body as a quick needle jabbed from the center of the computer and into my chest, "Simulating a battle field injury." I wasted no time in pressing the second button for the stem as the voice from the speakers spoke about the need to stay in the fight.

Another jab later and I felt like a new person, stronger even. The rush from the stim was a special mix that of course no one but the military knew about. I had seen people addicted to this shit, although believing that would be considered treason.
