-"Pen! Ricky!" a little Constance yelled, darting across the playground to reach her two friends. The two first graders turned their heads towards Constance and smiled.
"Hi, Connie!" Penny exclaimed, pulling her friend into a bone-crushing hug. Constance saw Ricky clumsily sign "hi" from over Penny's shoulder, and she gave him a small wave back. He had only lost his voice a few months prior and was still getting used to the ASL thing, so he was a bit rusty. Luckily, though for their young age, the choir understood what he was saying, presumably from the fact Father Marcus would pull them out of class twice a week for a quick ASL lesson.
"Pen, you're crushing me," Constance muttered, causing Penny to let out a surprised squeak and let go of her friend.
"Sorry!" She exclaimed, eyeing her friend up and down for any injuries. Constance giggled and shook her head.
"It's alright! But I have big news!" She said, throwing her hands up in the air. Penny's eyes gleamed as she rocked on the balls of her feet, leaning closer to Constance.
"What is it?" she asked, her voice rising five octaves.
"Yeah, what is it?" Ricky clumsily signed, though both children understood it. Constance quickly dragged her friends to a corner of the playground and created a huddle.
"Mischa likes Noel," she whispered, causing Penny to gasp. Ricky's jaw dropped as he hobbled backward in shock.
"Yeah, I know!" Constance exclaimed, her eyes twinkling.
"How do you know?" Penny asked, growing quite skeptical, yet her excitement remained.
"I heard him talking about on the phone with that girl he met on Roblox." Constance paused and tapped her chin. "I think her name was Talia."
"That's...insane," Ricky signed, his lips breaking into a smile.
"And I have a brilliant idea," Constance announced, making Penny grow even more excited.
"What?! What is it?!" She yelled, grabbing Constance by her shoulders and shaking her. Constance giggled and broke free from her gasp, making Penny frown.
"Please tell me," she whined, overdramatizing a sad voice. She put on her famous puppy eyes and pout, clasping her hands together under her chin like she was begging.
"Let her say it, Pen," Ricky signed, playfully hitting her ankle with his crutch, making her let out a surprised yelp.
"I was gonna!" She whined, rolling her eyes.
"Okay, well, I was thinking we could throw them a surprise wedding to help them confess their feelings for each other and stuff!" Constance announced, happily clapping her hands together.
Penny squealed and rolled on the balls of her feet, excitedly flapping her hands.
"Yes! That's gonna be so cute! We can have Ezra be the flower girl—or boy—whatever! I want to be the maid of honor, though. Wait, who will be the bride? I feel like Noel, considering he likes to dress up! And Mischa—"
"Penny!" Constance said, snapping her out of her rambling session. "Calm down. We still need to plan it out!"
Penny took a deep breath and nodded, stepping backward.
"Yeah—sorry. I got a little excited."
Constance shook her head and placed a comforting hand on her best friend's shoulder.
