Anna’s POV*
Monday morning rolled around faster than expected, bringing with it the usual bustle of school life. The weekend study session had left me with a lingering sense of connection, especially with Shashwat. His quiet nature intrigued me, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something deeper behind those thoughtful eyes.
As I walked to my locker, I spotted Maya waving at me from across the hallway. She hurried over, her usual energy bubbling over.
"Anna! I’ve got some exciting news!" she said, her eyes sparkling.
"What is it?" I asked, curious.
"Remember the school’s annual talent showcase? It’s coming up in two weeks, and I think you should totally enter!" she exclaimed.
"Me? I don’t know, Maya. I’m not really sure what I would do," I said, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness.
"Are you kidding? You should showcase your painting skills! You said you haven’t painted in a while, so this could be the perfect opportunity to get back into it," she encouraged.
Before I could respond, Raj and Shashwat joined us, both looking curious about the conversation.
"What’s this about painting?" Raj asked, grinning.
"Maya thinks I should enter the talent showcase," I explained.
"That’s a great idea! You should definitely do it, Anna," Raj agreed, nodding enthusiastically.
Shashwat, who had been quiet, finally spoke up. "I think it would be amazing to see your work, Anna. You have a real talent, and this could be a chance to show everyone what you can do."
His words, simple as they were, carried a weight that made my heart skip a beat. There was something about the way he said it, like he genuinely believed in me, and that gave me the confidence I needed.
"Okay," I said, a small smile tugging at my lips. "I’ll do it."
Maya clapped her hands together in excitement. "Yes! This is going to be awesome!"
Over the next few days, I found myself spending more time in the art room, preparing for the showcase. It felt good to paint again, to lose myself in the colors and brushstrokes. Shashwat and the others often stopped by to check on my progress, offering encouragement and feedback.
One afternoon, as I was working on my piece, Shashwat walked in, carrying his camera.
"Hey, Anna," he greeted, his voice soft.
"Hi, Shashwat. What brings you here?" I asked, smiling at him.
"I was wondering if you’d mind if I took some photos of you while you work. I want to capture the process, the way you create," he said, his gaze steady and sincere.
I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I wanted to be photographed. But there was something about the way he asked, like he genuinely wanted to document this part of my journey.
"Sure," I agreed, nodding.
Shashwat set up his camera and began taking photos as I worked. At first, I was a bit self-conscious, but soon, I lost myself in the painting, forgetting about the camera entirely. Every now and then, I’d glance up and catch Shashwat’s focused expression, his eyes following my movements with an intensity that made my heart flutter.
