"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
As I sat on the couch in the hotel, those words from the front page of the book I was reading, echoed in my head. The lobby was empty, and I was waiting for the rain to stop.
...It wasn't stopping.
...
Recently, I had changed my attire, from that silly blue shirt and grey pants to just a black hoodie I bought in this French-ish department store. Then I replaced that weird red hat with a black one, where I switched the red shoes with white. Of course, those grey pants sort of looked like they needed a change so I replaced those with navy ones. Quite the switch up, I suppose.I eventually got bored and ended up staring at the ceiling where the vibrant lights were, around an eternity above me. 'Wow, this place sure is spacious'.
I felt a phone buzz through my pockets, jolting my legs up as I yanked it out and checked who was messaging.
"Oh... that's right, I have no friends. Whoops," I quietly snickered to myself, now unlocking the phone and checking the social media platform.
...
My phone started vibrating, and it totally sucked until one thread caught my eye.
'The loser is back?'
'Oh please god no, that piece of trash should remain in that little house of his.'
'Wait he can't go back there. His mom already disowned him.'
'Bet he's too shit to stand back up. He's been idle af lately.'
'Wait he rejoined that league though'
'Wtf really? Are you kidding?'
'No I'm not'
...
Footsteps could be heard from behind me as the brunette approached me from behind. "Serena..." I softly said, turning off my phone in the most innocent way possible. 'She didn't see that right?'
Break up with her.
"What's on your screen?" Serena questioned out of the blue. Welp, not a single hello. Her eyes scanned my existence, piercing through my soul like a diamond needle. There was no getting out of it.
"Nothing," I blankly said, just barely keeping my composure. That's actually not true, no matter how much I twist it. The world seemed to stop and I let out a heavy sigh, letting out all the hesistancy that ate into me from her sharp gaze. Then, I opened my mouth, mustering up the courage to talk, finding a way to explain all of this.
"You know that's not true," she said.
I reluctantly looked into her eye, noticing her sharp gaze now looked like one of concern. "Serena... I," I began, while my brain searched its library of vocabularies to piece a sentence together, that hopefully made sense.
....
....
...
"I uhh- you see, I actually uhhh... my distant uncle put me in an arranged marriage with someone and he said I have to leave to this place soon."
As those words came out into the thin, yet tense air, I heard a piercing cries of glass shattering.
