I was rushing like never before, I took off my shirt as fast as possible.

I couldn't breathe. I couldn't see. It all happened so quickly.

I tied my shirt around his wounds. But It wasn't enough.

He kept bleeding, and I could visibly see his intestine out of its original place. I could see his ribs, yet I was capable of watching him breathe.

I could swear on my life that I saw him breathe.

But no matter how many times I stand here and swear on my life that I saw him breathe as they push him aside, they wouldn't believe me.

Because our lives have no meaning, they are wasted.

war after war, they never choose peace.

What's worth all of this torture that my lifelong best friend is going through.

Why wasn't it me that has their intestines out instead of him? He has a family, and I lost mine in a bomb.

They piled all the dead bodies on top of each other, and they burned them later on.

I could still see him breath. Someone else must have noticed, but they didn't seem to care.

As if he is a lost cause, as if trying to give him his life back is too much work to begin with.

My friend was at the very top of the pile of dead bodies.

He will be burned alive while his intestines hang out of his body.

"Keep moving. We don't have time," a soldier ordered us to keep moving.

But I just stood there.

I stood still watching as they started a fire.

"Did you listen to me dick head, I said, "Keep moving." We don't have time." He shouted at me, spitting on my face as he spoke.

I stared at him for a minute before I went on with the other soldiers.

The first night of this war, I kept crying nonstop.

But now, I have no tears left to cry.

If I cry too much, I will end up dehydrated since I don't drink enough water.

No one here drinks enough or eats enough.

We all just fight, for the sake of our family, for the sake of our lives.

for the sake of this country.

I never thought about the cost of becoming a hero to the people.

If I knew it all, I wouldn't have signed up for all of this.

I wouldn't have paid the cost.
