If Minho had to choose a worst fear that he never knew he had, this would be it.
Chan, who only moments before was crying quietly, clutching onto Hyunjin tightly, is...still. Silent. Unmoving.
Everyone is frozen, unsure of what to do.
Hyunjin breaks the silence with a soft little scream as he tilts the leader's head back, searching for any sign of life. He looks up, eyes glassy, lips trembling as he speaks.
"Hyung, he's-he's not breathing, what do we-"
Minho can't hear the rest of what the younger says over the rushing in his brain.
Fuck.
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
There's no way that this is happening.
How did Chan get to this point without any of them noticing?
No.
That can come later. Right now, Chan needs help.
He swallows drily, bracing himself to step into " fill-in leader" mode.
"Hyunjin, call an ambulance. Binnie, call our manager. Lixie, Jisung, Jeongin, can you go get blankets from Chan's studio? Seungmin, can you..."
He falters.
He doesn't know what he is supposed to do in this moment. He's not the leader- Chan is.
Chan is supposed to be the one to know exactly what to do. He was the one trained for emergencies. Chan is supposed to be there to support them, not the limp rag doll that's sprawled on the floor, head cradled in Hyunjin's lap, skin too pale, the circles under his sunken eyes on prominent display.
"I...I'll- I'll go get some water."
Seungmin stands hastily, pulling Felix and Jeongin up with him. Minho nods.
"A-and I'll- I'll try CPR."
He kneels next to the elder, gently lifting him off of Hyunjin, trying not to shudder at Chan's dead weight, the coldness of his skin, so unlike the warm leader.
Hyunjin stands shakily, pulling out his phone.
Minho grits his teeth.
He can do this.
He has to.
Chan's life depends on it.
The first set of compressions is the worst. Chan remains still, no sign of life in his face, his eyes remaining stubbornly closed.
Minho has to blink away tears, shaking his head and starting on the second set.
He chokes back a sob as a crack resounds through the studio. Hyunjin flinches, having finished his call, and Changbin gently rubs his back, tears streaming down his own face.
"Oh, God Channie, I'm so sorry."
Minho apologises, stumbling over his words as he does so. He knows the leader can't hear him, but he can't help it.
