Shigaraki Takes A Different Path p1

After the horror of killing his family Tenko walks the streets, hoping and silently begging for someone to help.
Unfortunately everyone passes him, thinking a hero would eventually come.
No one did.
Until, one night Tenko was sitting under a bridge, hope lost and scratching again.
A woman walks over and bends down. "Are you ok?" She asks gently.
When Tenko looks up he looks so defeated and weak.
"Oh you poor boy. Come with me and I'll clean you up." She rubs his cheek with the back of her finger. "You're so cold! Unfortunately these are all I have but it's better than nothing."
The boy watches as she pulls out artist gloves and puts them on him.
His pointer fingers are the only ones not covered.
She helps him stand and walk to her home.

"Can you tell me what happened?" She asks as she washes his hair.
"I killed them." He whispers quietly.
"You killed them?"
"I didn't mean to. I was just so scared and angry. But dad...dad I meant to kill."
The woman pauses but sighs softly. "He was mean wasn't he? Did he hurt you?"
"Yeah. He... I turned them to dust."
"I'm sorry you had to go through that. But I'll help you. Quirk manifestation can be scary but you'll be ok. I'm here for you."
Tenko looks up at her. "Are you a hero?"
The woman giggles and shakes her head. "No, but I can be your hero. Do you wanna be a hero?"
His eyes widen as memories flood his mind.

"I am here." All Might's voice echoes in his mind.
"You can be a hero Tenko." His mother's voice repeats.
"I'll be your biggest supporter." His sister's voice adds.
"I can be your hero." This woman offered.

Tears stream down his cheeks.
"I want to be a hero."
She smiles and kisses his forehead. "Then I will help you be a hero."
He looks up at her quickly. "Really?"
"Of course. And I won't hurt you like he did. Things will be scary but make sure to take deep breaths and we'll be ok."
"Ok."
"Now I don't have any clothes that will fit you but we can go shopping tomorrow. For now you can wear one of my shirts."
Tenko nods slowly. "Ok," he whispers.
She smiles and walks to her closet to find a shirt for him.

When she comes back Tenko dries off and gets dressed.
"What's your name?" The boy asks quietly.
"(Y/n)."
"That's a pretty name."
"Thank you. Let's put some lotion on and get to bed."
Tenko frowns but nods. "The doctor didn't know what was wrong with me. Why I scratch."
"It can be hard but I'll help you through it. We can start with my medical lotion and see if it helps."
"I don't really feel like scratching when I'm around you."
"I'm glad." She applies some lotion and kisses his head.
They walk to her room and they get into bed.
At first they start with their backs facing one another but Tenko eventually faces her.
His hand grips her shirt and she smiles softly.
"Good night Tenko."
"Good night (Y/n)."

Come morning Tenko is still asleep when (Y/n) wakes up and maneuvers out of bed.
She goes to the kitchen and starts making breakfast.
Eventually soft foot steps can be heard walking out.
"Good morning sweetheart. Did you sleep ok?"
"Mhm. Thank you."
"Why don't you take a seat? I'm just finishing now."
Tenko sits at the table and (Y/n) hands him a plate of food. He thanks her and starts eating.
(Y/n) sits down and eats as well.
His eyes brighten and he eats faster.
(Y/n) giggles and takes a drink of her juice. "If you want more just ask."
Tenko hands her his plate. "Can I really?"
The woman nods and stands. "More of everything?"
Tenko smiles happily and nods. "Yes please!"
She laughs and takes his plate. "Everything it is. Then after we can go shopping."

Once they finish and get dressed she takes his hand and they walk to the shop.
He looks around nervously.
"Pick out whatever you want Tenko."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course." She pats his head and smiles. "Now you can even touch the clothes and hold them. You won't turn them to dust."
"What if I freak out accidentally."
"Remember what I told you to do?"
A small silence follows.
"Take deep breathes?" He phrases more like a question.
"Exactly. I won't yell at you or be mad if something happens. Just relax."
"Ok," he whispers.

(Y/n) was pleasantly surprised when he actually grabbed clothes.
"I think you'll look nice in those. Good choice."
Tenko smiles and they walk to the register.
The woman behind the counter smiles nervously when she sees the boy.
(Y/n) notices and pulls out her card.
The transaction is silent besides the beeping of the price tags.
Tenko didn't pay any attention to the cashier, his face was buried in (Y/n)'s stomach.
When she looks down at him and sees his giddy smile her face softens and she smiles too.
The cashier hands her the bags of clothes but receives a glare.
(Y/n) grabs them, Tenko's hand and walks out of the store.

Tenko takes a bag from her so he could hold it.
(Y/n) smiles and ruffles his hair. "Let's find you some really cool shoes."
"Ok!"
(Y/n) leads him to a shoe store and he stops in front of the window.
He points to a pair in the window.
"You like those red ones? I like them too." The woman smiles and takes him inside.
One of the workers comes over and helps them get the right size and checks them out.
Tenko puts them on right away and smiles happily. "Thank you so much."
"You're welcome buddy."

(Y/n) takes the child back home and washes his clothes right away.
Tenko sits on the couch, reading a book.
"Tenko would you be ok if I hired you a tutor instead of going to school?"
The idea of being around other kids makes him nervous and he didn't want to be teased.
So he happily agrees to being homeschooled.
"As long as you can be friendly with other kids and keep your gloves on, if we go on outings you should be able to make friends even without going to school. I'm sure you're nervous about how you look but I'll do my best to remedy the issue."
"I just wanna stay here with you."
"I do have to go to work but I promise I'm all yours after. Is that ok?"
"Oh, ok. I'll do my best with school while you're away. Then I can become a hero super fast."
(Y/n) laughs happily. "Then you can be my hero."
Tenko smiles and hugs her tightly.
