Samantha was devastated, she just felt like she was in a nightmare with the hope of waking up in a beautiful, pink world.
Unfortunately, this was not the case, reality had hit her in the face.
A few years ago, his parents left this world following a traffic accident, and today... It's his grandmother's turn. The latter had been struggling with brain cancer for many years, but unfortunately, the disease had finally overcome this brave grandmother: her last discomfort had been fatal because as soon as the help arrived, death had taken her soul, leaving behind an inconsolable granddaughter. Today the funeral took place, and all their friends and acquaintances were present to support the young woman in this difficult ordeal.
Samantha sighed strongly while closing her eyes. She bitterly blamed herself for not having managed to save her grandmother from this terrible illness; she had done absolutely everything to save her...
But fate had decided otherwise...
She waited for everyone to leave the graveyard to find herself alone in front of her grandmother's grave, which was next to those of her parents...
Now, she was alone in the world.
-My daughter... Said Alberta Mondadori behind her. Samantha was surprised because she thought she was alone to finally be able to burst into tears.
-Mrs. Mondadori! Said Samantha, quickly wiping her tears before facing her late grandmother's friend. I thought you were already gone! She continued, making sure not to let her see her tears.
The old lady had understood that Samantha didn't want to be seen crying, so she decided to ignore what she had just seen.
-Uh...no, I was waiting for you, let's go little girl! It's going to be dark soon, come on! Ordered the old lady by pulling her by the arm.
Samantha had no desire to leave the graveyard where her parents and grandmother were buried, but Alberta was right: it was almost dark. So, she obeyed reluctantly...
Once inside Mrs. Mondadori's luxurious vehicle, Samantha remained silent, remembering all the beautiful moments she had spent with her grandmother. She was so disconnected from the world that she didn't even notice the tears streaming down her cheeks. This greatly saddened the old lady sitting next to her, observing Samantha in silence for a few minutes.
-Samantha, I'm still sorry for your grandmother, it's really sad. She began as Samantha nodded gently, overcome with grief.
-Your grandmother made me promise something before she died... She said, voluntarily leaving her sentence hanging.
-What... What did she make you promise? Samantha asked between two sobs.
-She made me promise to take care of you Samantha! The old lady finally admitted. Come with me to Italy, you will be happy there.
-Mrs. Mondadori! Samantha began, thank you for everything you've done for my grandmother and me, but...
-There is no "but", little girl! She interrupted her; it is out of the question that you live alone in Greece. I promised your grandmother that I would take care of you, and I intend to keep my promise.
-But madam... you know, I wouldn't want to bother anyone...
-You will not bother anyone, my darling! Alberta reassured Samantha with her soft voice. Come with me, you will see Italy, it's really beautiful! You will be happy; you will resume your studies and start a new life. She said in an attempt to convince her.
-But I don't have a passport; I've never left Greece. Said Samantha very embarrassed.
-Don't worry! All you have to do is prepare your suitcases and I'll take care of the rest. She reassured her with a warm smile.
-Oh... I don't know what to say...
-Don't say anything then my dear! Just pack your suitcases, and tomorrow in the first hour, we will take the jet to Italy!
Italy? It would be a new start for Samantha. Far from everything, far from Greece, far from all these bad memories...
